In 1532, Francisco Pizarro, commanding fewer than 200 men, ambushed Incan Emperor Atahualpa during a feast, slaughtering unarmed Incans and capturing Atahualpa. Atahualpa, embroiled in a civil war, had just risen to power when Pizarro, backed by Spain's King Charles V, arrived. Pizarro's cunning trap, aided by deceitful negotiations and a massacre, led to Atahualpa's capture and eventual execution, marking the tragic end of the Inca Empire and the dawn of South America's European colonization.
