The incas had roads that connected everything, and the didn't had the horses or mules, it's really impressive that the rope bridges they created lasted for so long, a network of impressive roads created to communicate the vast empire, that means that if any revolt started they could get people from all over the empire to rally and destroy that revolt with superior forces, people really need to start comparing them to the Roman Empire.

Its the only major empire that goes north to south. All the other empires expanded either to the east or west in similar climates. The Incan generals had to perform their own versions of crossing the Alps. The Incan empire is even more unique in their use of a planned economy while they expanded their borders.

Its crazy to imagine how big and developed it would be if it was uninterrupted for another 100 years to grow

Also, mummies still held property. Not a comparison, just a fun fact.

What I find interesting especially the area west of South America(the Andes) is that a lot of the major cities are mountainous and not usually found along the coastlines which is usually a great spot for cities of a very high pop count.

The Inca also actively fought back against the spanish, they only lost because the Spanish took advantage of the fact the Inca had recently suffered from a devastating war and a succession crisis combined with heavy population loss due to diseases the Spanish brought with them. The Inca had relatively advanced warfare tactics for their limited resources, they used slings and formations of axes and shields.

Most people forget that Incas existed during 1500s. That is just 500 years ago. They are not an ancient civilization like the Mayans or many other Asian and Mediterranean civilizations. Incas were contemporaries of Ottoman Empire in the old world. Basically same tile as Henry VIII in England.

I had the pleasure to go see the Incan special exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian in DC a few years ago and it nearly brought me to tears. I'm technically part Incan but due to distressing family history, I never got to explore that side of things. I really wish I can go on the trip with y'all but can't afford it. Some day though!

Hi. Just to point that the incas stopped at the south due to the mapuche. Who resisted spain for 300 years. Check it out

They also were so massively culturally advanced compared to other aboriginal groups they would demand lice as tribute in order to force other tribes to be more hygienic.

Thanks for being interested in the history of my country, Perú, the Land of the Incas 🇵🇪, wishing you well and wishing you a nice stay when you come to visit my homeland, there's a lot to see and do, besides the delicious food we have, a lot of places where to go, from the shores of the Pacific Ocean and it's coast, through the cold and imponent Andes mountains, to the humid and green jungle, Perú has a lot to offer, not wonder Perú is the 19th largest country in the world. So you just can't imagine what will you see and experience to be in the hub of the Incan Culture and I know we have Macchu Picchu known worldwide to be the centre of the Inca Empire, Cuzco, he have plenty of places of interest besides Macchu Picchu laying in all the Peruvian territory. Greetings from Lima, Perú 🇵🇪 and hope you have a wonderful experience in my country. No wonder Perú is also known as the "Rome of America"

The only folk that did not run and keep the incas at bay was the Mapuche at the Maule river in central Chile.

Honestly, when the conquest of the new world was covered when I went through the Inca were mentioned as being one of the main 3, but they got almost no coverage beyond "they existed, this was who discovered them."

I always wonder so much about them and so little is talked about it as few stories survived.
Most people don’t even know the Inca isn’t their actual name and is Tawantinsuyu which translates to the four regions.

imagine if the spanish and europeans didnt arrive the incas would have conquered a whole continent. fact is that they were really smart, the spanish made comments about how atahualpa talked like an european noble or about how the skulls of the nobles were different compared to other natives, it is crazy man, but now that race is extinct :(

Thank you for this cause. I was one of those people who did not appreciate the gravity of the Inca empire.

Fun fact, there was for a very, very long time a small, independent native people in south america that resisted the Incas, and when the spanish took over, they simply called them "New Incas" as that was basically the same role in relation to them that they served. If i recall they were finally subjugated sometime in the 1800's.

Its even more impressive when you consider how much of their empire was mountainous which is extremly difficult to conquer. Meanwhile most of the Mongol empire was open desert, a quarter of which was inhabited by other nomads. Im not sure if any other empire contains that much mountainous terrain but that alone makes it very impressive
