We always hear how true knowledge is forbidden for humanity because human minds literally can't handle the truth, it is knowledge beyond their comprehension, one would only become mad or worse. This is why Truth tells Ed he doesn't know where he belongs. He belongs among humans, who shouldn't medle with ancient and absolute knowledge, they shouldn't try to play God. One should accept their nature. There's nothing wrong with seeking knowledge. The wrong part is thinking you could become all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect. God itself.

Ed lost his leg, so he'd have a harder time standing on his own 2 feet. He then lost his right arm to get Al back, his "right-hand man", if you will. He then regained his arm and his brother, at the cost of his alchemy. The only time Truth was ever defeated was by a human accepting their humanity. He chose to have Truth keep his leg as a reminder of his greatest failure, and to keep moving forward. For one, he's never alone. His friends matter more.
Al lost his body, as he wanted to feel his mother's warmth one more time. He asked Truth to give him a refund to save Ed during the final fight, as his blood seal had suffered critical damage. He knew full well Ed would come back and get him, by any means. He had a fight to finish first, and my God, Al was not letting him lose.
Izumi lost her reproductive organs, as she wanted to bring her stillborn child back. She cannot bear children anymore. She may not have had children of her own, but she loved the Elric brothers like her own.
Roy was forced to perform human transmutation against his will, and he had a grand vision for his country. He lost his sight, albeit on a temporary basis. If he had performed human transmutation of his own free will, he would have lost his eyes. Truth was going easy on him due to the circumstances.
The one thing they all have in common is they all learned something. Everything Alchemy has to offer, and other life lessons.

Father had learned nothing. Not even the fact he was free the whole time. His Gate was blank. He cast aside his 7 desires, not realizing everyone has them. While there's nothing wrong with seeking knowledge, Perfection is impossible. Trying to become God is impossible.
"Humans who dare try to play God must pay the ultimate price"
How ironic. The one who said that had tried to play God, tried to have God join him. Even if Hohenheim hadn't come up with a counter-circle, Father would not have been successful, for he did not believe in himself once. Difference would have been the number of lives lost. A small number vs an entire country... no wonder Hohenheim was away a lot - to stop Father by any means, and he was successful.

Being a living Philosopher's Stone has its benefits... and one who had taken the time to get to know every single soul residing there? Even more beneficial. At the end of the finale, Hohenheim only had his soul left, and he used part of it to help heal Al after he got his body back. One of the last things he did as their father. If it isn't a testament to his character, I don't know what is.

I have seen this clip before with English voiceovers. For some reason, hearing it in Japanese just now shook me to my core.

This clip perfectly represents what I went through as a naive teenager going through a psychedelics phase. Perfectly.

And I’ve always known that, but seeing it this way actually made me choke up and shudder with fear.

I legitimately feel traumatized by the truth I was so cruelly hit with when I was but a child.

The truth I asked for.

I like how the kabbalah was expressed through alchemy in their universe. The sephirot is even inscribed on the gate of truth. Fascinating how this was right in front of my eyes as a child but never understood the deep occultism.

Істина - це те, на чому базується буття ніщо, тому сидіння в ніщо виглядає як правда, що сидить там.

Я хочу більше моторошних сцен Правди, але Правда в FMA — це лише концепція, тому в FMA немає моторошних сцен.

Yeah tbh with this kind of asshole as a God, on could understand why Father wanted to bring him down.
