If the grandmother wanted to die, by starving to death, she wouldn't eat regardless of having food given to her, so if she really wanted to die, particularly by starving to death, the granddaughter wouldn't need to leave instructions to the caretaker to not give the grandmother food

I don't believe the granddaughter at all. Even if Mildred had thought about committing suicide, ultimately she didn't. Nor does the granddaughter knowing her grandmother had suicidal thoughts change the fact that the granddaughter was the one restricting Mildred's food and thereby causing her death. It could be framed as a mercy killing but not assisted suicide, especially since the granddaughter implies that Mildred wasn't always certain that she wanted to die.

The maid knew the grandmother wasn't being given adequate food and water. She got fired for intervening by bringing the grandmother more to eat and drink and getting caught by the granddaughter.

The part I'm not sure about is the strict denying of extra food the carer tried to give. It should have been the grandmother's choice, each time, if she refused extra food. She could have said 'no' each time.

nobody wants to die by starving to death, its arguably one of the most painful ways to die

2:21 This contradicts what the maid said. The maid had said the grandma was still so hungry after eating and wanted more, so the maid gave her more.

I wish Micheal Moriarty had stayed longer on the show he was great.

2 years was very lenient for her, even if she truly believed she hadn't done anything wrong. Considering the amount of lying and all the other evidence I would have at least gone 3-4.

If the grandmother wanted to die, the live-in maid should have known. The police should have asked her about it.

None of what the granddaughter says makes sense. If her grandmother really wanted to die, she wouldn't of eaten the extra food the caretaker was giving her.

That said, this was really murder, not assisted suicide. The poor woman was starved to death on purpose. If the grandmother really wanted to die, I doubt she would have wanted to have it happen in such an agonizing, painful way.

When you are in a lot of physical or emotional pain, you certainly won't be asking for more of either one...

"When she asked me why she should go on living, I couldn't give her an answer."
Me: "Seriously?!" Because if she really cared, the only acceptable answer is "Because you're my grandmother, and I love you." As of September of last year, I lost my *last* grandparent. I loved my grandparents and step-grandparents, so the very idea of willfully doing something like this is like a knife in my heart!

Thank you for not cutting off the ending

By the end of this episode they knew that that granddaughter murdered her Grandmother because she needed a lot of more money for her education, so she starved Granny for her inheritance. She went to prison for 25 years. End of show.

I don't believe the daughter. She wanted that apartment.

I don't think I ever caught Schiff's line until now: "I'd do 2 years in prison to come out 25"! LOL

I can’t imagine doing something like this to my grandfather. I loved that man like my own father having grown up without one.

And murder is?

This is why you should NEVER EVER reveal to ANYONE what is in a will. They can use it against you. I don’t even have a will and I know this.

No matter if the grandmother was serious about suicide or not, I would have always erred on the side of caution and brought her to the hospital. It's hard to believe anything the granddaughter says.
