A high school friend of mine had this done. Her legs were two different lengths, and she had a limp/hip problems as a result. She was out of school for months, and it was very painful, but as far as I am aware, she did not regret it.

I know someone who did this procedure and it was so utterly agonizing that he had to get therapy for years, wanting to — you know… uhh dark thought… because he wanted to get away from the pain. He only ended up growing like 2 inches from it too? And he’s still in therapy and remembers the torture to the tiniest detail. He physically couldn’t move for ages. He had to work from home while all his bones healed.

Not worth it guys. It just isn’t.
If you have any questions I can try to ask him, but he’s a friend of my dad’s so it could be hard to do that.

In Russia it's known as "The Ilizarov device". I have a friend who had it done as his legs were of different length. It was horrifying, but he got better and his legs are even. And that's probably the only way it should be used.

I can't imagine that would ever heal "right". I broke my arm as a young child, it was a clean break, required no surgery just a cast for about 4 weeks. Healed beautifuly but it still hurts when it gets cold or if I carry frozen items in the grocery store and even with certain weighted exercises!

I remember when some shorter guy had this operation in Thailand or something in an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy', and due to some kind of complication he had to have the stuff removed, and it ended up making him shorter. He complained and ranted, and his brother pointed out that the only one who's ever had an issue with the guy's height was the guy himself, and that the reason people don't like him is because he's always a confrontational a**hole about it, NOT because he's on the shorter side.

A friend of mine was born with a form of dwarfism. So, way back in the day (mid to late 70s ish), at elementary school age, this procedure, described in first hand, excruciating detail, was performed on her...! She basically spent her childhood in bed, alone, in daily, tortuous pain. I cried when she told me🥺 No worries though, she's an amazing person!❤

I know someone who had this. To fix one leg being shorter than the other.
It was extremely painful for him. He became addicted to pain meds and it caused a lot of issues in his life.
Hes okay now and yes it did help him to walk more normal but he said if he could go back he'd never have had it done.

I had a hip infection as a child and as a result had a short right femur by 2 inches which as i was getting older was causing problems. Docs recommended leg lengthening similar to this but internal. Let me tell you, it was one of the most painful process i have had the displeasure to go through. I was not able to do anything for almost 2 years, lots of recovery and now that 3 years have passed, i would still say i am still not back to normal yet. Yes my back pain and other issues did go away but it came at a cost. Its not worth that cost just to get taller believe me.

When I was younger I wanted to have a surgery that made me taller. ( didn't even know one existed) So glad my complex was a phase & have come to terms with my shortness. Lol

There’s also an internal lengthening which isn’t painful when extending your leg it’s only painful because of the cut in the skin and you will feel stiffness because your leg is being stretch so stretching everyday is important. It’s also used for people who have leg imbalance because have your body tilted when you stand up can affect your spine when your grow up

I actually know someone who did this operation, but they did it in Russia... and it actually turned out well for them...
