Beit She’arim is also known as the “Necropolis of the Rabbis”. There are 5 feet high menorahs carved into the walls, and beautiful murals. Funny he leaves out that it’s an ancient Jewish necropolis in northern Israel. Very interesting site. It had been a 3, 000 year old glass factory that made windows for Solomon’s Temple. Because of the Temple connection, the rabbis wanted to be buried there.

Limestone is a soft stone and easy to carve. Even with primitive tools it wouldn't be difficult for skilled craftsmen of the day to carve out the chambers.

They carved it out with chisels & hammers, why is it everyone always forgets to mention how they also had to use chicken bones & deer antlers in order to speed up the process.

We are so smart that we think no one could have done this before us.

I love it when people say "only with chisel's and hammers" . A Hundred good, strong labourers who know how to use their tools could do this in a lot quicker time than you'd think . It's only limestone after all. Now if it was granite or something equally as tough I'd agree and be in awe . It's still impressive as hell even without the "how did they do it" element.

Ever wonder about all the caves like this one that are just now being 'discovered'? And why NOW?

The carvings on the stones are absolutely flawless! It's amazing I would love to see this in person, trying to imagine how they created all this with simple tools is mind blowing 🤯

It was reused as a necropolis. Before that, thousens of years before, it was a shelter against comets.
