The 7 Modes Song - Bright to dark

Показать описание
This is an experiment with the seven modes of the major diatonic scale. I'm using all the modes from the brightest to the darkest, and I'm modulating between each section up 1½ tone, creating a God like transition. I added an image to evoke the 'color' of the mode.
E Lydian - G Ionian - Bb Mixolydian - C# Dorian - E Aeolian - G Phrygian - Bb Locrian

...Yes Locrian sounds exactly like the image you chose. **Everything on fire**

The single note repeating during locrian really help anchor me so that I wouldn't fall into the chaos that is locrian

Lydian = Spiritual, otherworldly
Ionian = Innocent and quaint
Mixolydian = Passionate and soulful
Dorian = Pensive, chill, jazzy
Aeolian = Melancholy, wistful
Phrygian = Mysterious, rugged, ancient
Locrian = Chaotic and sinister

This is a better example of the modes than any music theory lesson could ever be.

Thank you.

Edit: I've been teaching myself guitar so I could jam with my uncle better. I only jammed with him once when I was a super beginner. He died before I could ever impress him. It's very difficult for me to keep learning. But, I'm going to become a master guitarist and he will always be a part of that.

Thank you for making this demonstration of the modes. It will help me reach my goal.

This gives me the strength to make the tough decisions that need to be made.

Most people think of locrian is chaotic, but I think of it as calm and expressive.

well, the Ionian keys of this song are...
1) B (for E lydian), using IV-V-iii-vi in B (I-II-vii-iii in E)
2) G (ofc since here, G is in ionian), using I-vi-IV-V
3) the Bb key is quite consistent in Bb mixolydian here with I-VII (flattened)-IV, but can we say that's equivalent to Eb ionian (V-IV-I-V)?
4) The ionian equivalent in this section (C# dorian) are B, but the chord progression more likely in E lydian (vi-II-I-V) -the B ionian equivalent is ii-V-IV-I-
5) Aeolian is as consistent as ionian, so yeah, Em (aeolian) key is quite the same with G major (ionian) with the progression of vi-ii-IV-V)
6) For G phrygian, that;s equivalent to Eb ionian with the chord progression of iii-IV-V-IV (-V)
7) The Bb locrian is hard to determine tho. Here I heard like B locrian, actually. So it must be C ionian

That was brilliant and beautiful...what a wonderful journey

I am someone who hears things the opposite way around from others (i.e. locrian is the brightest of these 7 to me -- the happiest) and the end was very motivating, actually.

The Lydian improvisation is EPIC!!!! Though, then again, it IS my favorite mode of The Major Scale... 😂😂😂😂
(I wish that there was an extended version of it, because it's in my head!)

The "Lydian" one is not uncommon in songs from bands in Indonesia, which are undoubtely Ionian.

It's full progression in this case is "E F#/E D#m G#m (2x) C#m F# B B" (although the C Ionian one is much more common). You can find those easily in those bands.

First one is just G# Aeolian.
Second one is correct. Just a simple chord progression: G-C-D-G.
Third one is also correct.
Fourth one is more like B Ionian, eh? Although C# Dorian is possible as well.
Fifth one is correct. I think some people would view as D Mixolydian, but to me it's E Aeolian.
Sixth one is also correct.
Seventh is Locrian, just wrong notes. The notes are just one semitone higher than it should be: it's B Locrian.

I'd do a "story" interpretation for this one like I did on the Dark to Bright video, but it'd just be too depressing...
(Well, unless you listen to/read the other one after this. Then it's like "A disaster happened, but it got better!")
Something something lovely blue sky, lovely day on the ground too, it's raining but I like rain, remembering people lost, did the ground shake and OH MY GOD IT'S A VOLCANO was all I could come up with. :P

Gotta say, the lydian sounded fairly aeolian to me.

Honestly the B-flat Locrian sounds a lot more like a B-natural Locrian...anybody else feel this way?
