Simple HAND GRIP for thrilling IMPROVISATION with all 7 MODES

Introducing a great triad based HAND GRIP to do thrilling PIANO IMPROVISATION over all the 7 MODES.

By using a hand grip we make the Modes much more thrilling and gripping instead of just playing the Modes stepwise up and down.
Furthermore, it becomes much simpler and easier to do a jazz improvisation. I’ll show you how.

By the end of this lesson we'll improvise thrilling modal jazz by blending several modes which makes our sound much more colorful and organic.

Translations of the English subtitles to Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French by Edgardo Solano from Colombia. Thank you so much Edgardo!!! You can turn on the subtitles and choose a language in the video settings.

All NewJazz lessons are free, public and for everybody. If you want to help me keep going you are so much welcome to make a small voluntary donation at either
You can also just give me a nice like - moral support is also great support!!! Thank you so much :) :) :)

Please, do not ever apologize! You are the absolute best, and you're the reason why I became so good at playing the piano after years of blindly reading music scores. If I could ever meet you in person, I'd have so many questions, but also a lot to thank you for. Maybe you can answer this one: After going through most of your guides, now I can easily navigate through pentatonic scales. There is a specific pattern in improvisation that works really well, but I cannot understand why it works so well! Let's say you start at the classic Cminor pentatonic. For some reason, the chord progression I-VI-IV-VII works so ridiculously beautifully, and it allows you to easily continue the improvisation 1 step down using the same pattern, until you're back to Cminor. Eventually, you can shift a fourth using your simple hand grip technique, and continue with the same pattern, to go through the other half remaining steps. The same however, does not sound remotely good if you're starting on Cmajor. On Cmajor, I noticed that a very easy pattern would be I-VI-IV-V, and then you can easily go to IV, instead of back to I, changing from Cmajor to Fmajor almost without even noticing the change. My question is, WHY?! And are there other patterns that you'd recommend that would allow me to navigate through different tunes with the same lack of effort of the pattern that I mentioned? My understanding is that when I'm navigating through major scales, I'm rotating through the circle of fifths counter-clock wise, Why is is that I cannot do the same, but clock-wise? Is there any specific pattern that makes this job easy?

Thank you. No one explains modes like you do. I believe you understand this like no other. After decades of only seeing limited application of church modes to jazz impro I now see something I have not seen before. Again. thank you!

While I have greatly enjoyed these videos, they have made me painfully aware of just how rare the true teacher is these days. If you could teach how to teach as well as you teach how to understand music, the world would be right as rain in a few generations.

Thank you from Texas!! I am so glad I found your channel!! I love your approach to teaching jazz solos. Just beginning my piano journey in my 60s. No desire to play basic children’s songs nor play in a band. Enjoy playing by myself. Your video walking in the woods listening to the birds was spot
