I have been eating usually 4 squares of dark chocolate (usually 85-92%) with my toast in the morning for breakfast for many years. After seeing the Consumer Reports article I had my blood tested for heavy metals. The test showed low levels of lead and mercury, but unfortunately did not test for cadmium. This was back when the CR article was first released. Anyway, I decided not to worry about it and still have my dark chocolate whenever I want is 80 now and if the dark chocolate takes me

There's a wonderful artisan chocolate bar sold in a small Spanish specialist shop Olives and More in South London: 94% chocolate, no sugar or sweetener, EVOO. It's bitter, creamy and wonderful (and expensive). Artechoc brand made in Spain 💛

Until recently I was consuming Trader Joe's dark chocolate. Recently Consumer Reports say this is 200% of allowable Cadmium and lead. Please comment! How exactly is this so wonderful for you when it contains lead and cadmium. I might see this video as a disservice. Ive read two of your books and Im a fan (btw)

I was waiting for Dr. Gundry to address the recent concerns over high levels of heavy metals found in dark chocolate. I hope he does an updated video on it.

Ryan Sternagel (The Stern Method) & Warren Phillips (True Cellular Detox) just posted a video about a recent Consumer Reports release that 23 out of 28 dark chocolates commonly sold were tested for metals & contained dangerous levels of lead & cadmium. What chocolate do you recommend, Dr. Gundry?

I've eaten alter ego's 100% and lily's 92% for a while now, but switched to ghirardelli 100% back in 2021 because of heavy metals ( this has been known for a while, don't know why now it's worrisome). Before I switched, I still consumed the ones I had because it's not that big of a problem if you consume it the right way.
If you have those brands found to contain above average amounts of heavy metals, luckily it's not the end of the world.
- Consume the chocolate with fibrous foods, that alone will reduce heavy metal absorption quite drastically.
- For more effectiveness, include some phytic acid containing foods if you're healthy. It's not just an anti-nutrient, it binds to damn near everything, such as heavy metals, just like fiber rendering it a powerful detoxifying aging if consumed in moderation.
- Get some iodine! This aids the body in removing heavy metals.

I ate dark chocolate daily for 3 years until a comprehensive study found that the majority of them contain very unsafe levels of cadmium and heavy metals. Specifically, dark chocolate had, on average, 7.6 micrograms of cadmium and 0.8 micrograms of lead per one-ounce serving, and some products had three or four times as much. Look it up.

I missed my mom’s tablea (chocolate from cacao, no added sugar, just pure cacao). We make them for hot cocoa drinks and may add cream or sweetener. Yummy!

The Consumer Reports lab found that out of the 28 dark chocolate bars, eight had more than 100% of the MADL of cadmium in a single ounce. Ten had more than 100% of the daily allowable dose of lead per ounce. And five contained more than 100% of both cadmium and lead.

I grow my own chocolate, i feed the tree eggs and kale and every second day i water the trees with abottle of apple cider vinegar they are still young trees and only give me blocks of 12 squares (4x3) i imagine with time they will be bigger, ill keep you all posted.
I havent lead or cadmium tested it yet but i cant taste any of that at the moment so fingers crossed.

Love dark chocolate but very concerned about the recent report that most brands contain higher than ideal levels of lead and cadmium.

What about heavy metals in dark chocolate, typically lead and cadmium? Were the Kuna Indians obtaining a cocoa source that did not contain heavy metals? Lots of readily available dark chocolate sold today has been tested by Consumer Reports and Consumer Lab and quite often these bars contain high amounts of the toxic heavy metals.

Since following Dr. Grundys advice on lectins way back in 2017, my health changed for the better. So I started having 2 squares of dark chocolate every evening - some times up to 4 squares. For the past 3 years or so I have had a sore mouth . My homeopath tried various remedies but nothing worked. I thought chocolate might have something to do with it, so stopped for a few days but nothing changed so I went back to the chocolate. Then one day I came across something about oxalates causing burning mouth syndrome. I investigated further and realised that I had anoxalate overload problem, probably since childhood and I am now 80 almost. Although I am very fit and healthy, this explains some of the health issues that I have had and it is my view that the oxalates have possibly caused the lectin intolerance. I have now reduced my oxalate levels and stopped chocolate and other so called healthy foods. My mouth is no longer sore, various skin issues are clearing up and I feel so pleased that I have found out this information.

I just bought cacao nibs 100% organic and I decided to blend it with coconut oil, and stevia then molded it and froze it to make my own chocolate. :) Thank you so much.

Hello👋😎, well Dr Gundry, for the past 5 months, I have been eating a little dark chocolate (Lindt 85%), , ,
until a recent article came out stating, that dark chocolate was found to have high amounts of Lead and Cadmium, which is bad for your health, Lindt dark chocolate being one of the worst, needless to say, I have stopped eating dark chocolate for now, until I learn more, have you heard of this?
