Should You Quit Your 9-5 Job to Become a Full-Time Real Investor?

Connect with Dave:

Wondering how to invest in real estate so you can finally quit your job? Then, this episode might surprise you. While most real estate educators online are constantly stressing how you must leave your W2 so you can become a full-time real estate investor, today, we’re going to do the opposite, proving why most real estate investors SHOULD keep their job and let real estate supplement their dreams, instead of becoming their dream.

Take it from Lawrence Briggs. He’s an avid BiggerPockets listener who moved to a different city just to invest in real estate. With such passion and drive, you’d think he wants to become a full-time landlord. But the truth is…he doesn’t. His passions go far beyond managing tenants and fixing toilets, so he uses real estate to amplify his lifestyle and protect his finances so that he never HAS to get a job but can choose the exact job he wants to work.

Today, we’re talking to Lawrence about balancing your W2 job with real estate investing, why you DON’T need to quit to reach (even a small amount of) financial independence, the side hustle he used to save up for his first rentals, and how he works just a few hours a week managing his real estate portfolio. This is the realistic way to build wealth through real estate, and if Lawrence can go from poverty to multi-unit landlord, you can invest, too!

I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to share my story with the BiggerPockets community! This community has been extremely supportive of my real estate investing journey!

To Dave Meyer, the entire BiggerPockets team, and every listener/viewer of this episode, THANK YOU! 🙌🏾

GOLD. Many of my investors started off with full time jobs with kids and salaries and they just slowly added to their portfolio over time and eventually retired early or quit their jobs because they were replacing their current income. That's why I think buying 2-4 unit properties can accelerate this process, plus easier to manage with multiple doors in one place

I’m an also an investor working W2 and side hustling as a realtor in the Austin Texas area. Since becoming a regular listener to Bigger Pockets for the last year, it has given me so much insight and the confidence to purchase another property early this year using creative financing and running it as a MTR. Many thanks for the interviewers and the contributors to the show. Would love to have the opportunity go to BP Con this year. 😊

I’m 22 years old who has only been investing since last November and I’ve been listening to every BP episode that has come out over the last year or two. I’ll be honest, I think podcast can be a little corny but I have become addicted to listening to these episodes. When I stop listening to them for a few days I feel like I am off my game, almost like how you feel when you skip the gym for a couple days. When I run out of current episodes I literally go back to the og episodes with BT just so I feel like I am making the most of my free time. In 10-20 years from now I will be in a completely different place in my life and not to glaze but BP will be a huge reason for that.

WOW!! Such a great episode. So nice to see realistic doable steps for beginners to get into real estate in the current market we're in. Loved the habit stacking tip of the meal delivery side hustle and driving for dollars. Also, it's nice to hear Lawrence Briggs' story. Lawrence adds so much value in the BP Facebook groups.

Love Such great insight.

I left Dallas for Detroit & everyone thought I was insane. Not only do I have a much better quality of life but I am investing in real estate at a higher rate than I would have been able to in Dallas. Bonus: I absolutely love the city!!!

I really enjoyed this episode. What a wonderful story Lawrence has and gives me hope about starting my own RE journey. I also don't want it to be my main thing but it does seem to have been the only pathway highlighted in prior episodes. Glad to see some different perspectives here finally and not just the "100 doors" mogul type.
