Why Babies Cry

Babies cry because they're distressed, but scientists still aren't sure what types of negative emotions they experience and whether their angry facial expressions match their emotional state.

The crying at 2:27 sounds exactly like the fake baby I had to take home for child development.

"Tummy Time" is when you lay a baby down on their stomach for a set period of time so they can work on their muscles, such as the ability to hold up their head. It also helps set up the early stages of crawling.

From my experience, the reason behind most emotions in babies is trapped wind! :)

Am I the only one who zooms in and tries to read the names of the books? Yes? No? Maybe?
I just want to say that you're one of my new favorite people, ever. You're inspirational, undeniably funny and your face is so expressive it's like watching a play unravel. I absolutely love your channel.

I get one of 3 reactions from babies- cry until I leave the room-the "completely lost" look-fall asleep in my arms within seconds

I think another reason that babies might cry is because of stress... and the reason for them being stressed is because they don't know how to speak to us to tell us what they need. I've noticed that people who suffer from severe autism, the ones who are not able to speak.. some of them get stressed out and cry when they need something, but they cannot tell us. It wouldn't surprise me if babies are the same way. After all, imagining myself in that position, not knowing how to speak to tell someone what I need.. that would stress me out and probably make me cry.

I am literally crying with laughter ohmygosh that was amazing. And also highly informative. I had never really thought about it before beyond "they can't talk".
Interesting and hilarious video.

how is pain measured by scientist? how do they know how "bad" something hurts?

After a certain point babies will also fake cry just because they know it makes mommy and daddy come running. Apparently fake crying can be picked out because they will cry then STOP and wait for a few moments to see if someone is coming, then start again if no one is coming.

Maybe there is confusion because babies, like adults (and teenagers) have MIXED emotions. You can be in pain, scared, and angry all at the same time. When I got run down by a car I felt all those emotions at once. I was hurt, because being hit by a car is very painful. I was afraid because the guy tried to kill me. I was angry because the guy hit me with his car.

You did a video about jealousy in a relationship, but what about jealousy once the relationship is over? Like, why is it so hard for some people to cut their losses and move on after a relationship has ended, and why do some people find it necessary to harrass or slander an ex or their new partner?

Babies cry because they want _me_ to cry. That's always been the end result and that's why I'm a terrible babysitter. X3

Tummy time is the time you put your baby on their bellies so they can strengthen their muscles for sitting up and crawling.

See babies cry out of NEED, not manipulation. EVENTUALLY they do, but an infant cries, because that's what they need to do. If you as a parent can't tell when your baby starts to cry out of manipulation over need, then you need to check yourself. I guarantee you a child under one has never cried out of manipulation.

How about babies cry to communicate - hunger, uncomfortable (wet or soiled diaper) and tiredness.  These three are especially for the under 9 months old actual TRUE babies as opposed to toddlers say those 14 months plus old.
