Tip for people watching this. Sand anything you sand with a flat surface behind you're paper, sanding with you're fingers will not sand a surface perfectly flat, always wear a respirator (smoker or not), never spray in a place with silicone products in the room (calk, oil, etc) as it can cause you're paint to fish eye. Also cover surrounding surfaces well....I can almost guarantee there is dry spray on the front bumper of this vehicle and over spray on the windshield. Also don't smoke when you are painting....plus follow the flash time instructions from the paint manufacture.

Lessons learned :

1) this is an all day job
2) back taping helps minimize hard lines
3) good music helps the day move along
4) brothers gon smoke some weed
5) use heat lamp to dry clear coat before wet sanding
6) Tom Coronado is cool as fuck

I've been searching for a good video on how to do a paint blend, and after viewing dozens of vids here, this one was by far the best and most helpful. The steps for the process were explained and demonstrated clearly. Not everybody needs to do an entire panel repaint. I bought a car with a stupid orange stripe painted down the center of the hood and down into the fascia of a Dodge Magnum and the body shop wanted a ridiculous amount of money (a grand and a half) to repaint the whole hood and fascia. I will be using these blending techniques to do the job myself for maybe a hundred bucks. I have all the paint guns, sandpaper and paint/clear already, mind you.

I thought you were going to buff it. How can you buff it and make the repair invisible? How long will it last on a horizontal panel? Why didn't you spray towards the front of the hood? That would have prevented any over spray travelling towards the rear of the car.

For all these haters here. Come in it is a great quick fix for doing a nice rework. No primer, no problem because no oxygen gets on the surface to cause rust so why using it for a fix like this. Just simple physics. Thank you for that video it shows quite perfect the way of blending a paintwork. 👍

Yes we do have a heated Spray Booth, not at that location but at our 200 industrial drive location. That hood was a dealership car and . they demand quick easy and cheap. We do most of our work outside with the elements, so out techs know how to do it with little dust. if we do get dust its minimal and we wet sand it out. Hope this answered your question. Thanks

what turbine system is that you are using it looks like you have very little overspray but shooting clear without a mask is pushing up daisy stuff.

Hello, I would like to have 12 cans of this color? Where can I order it? Is the paint like this from the can when you spray over primer and then clear coat?
Cheers

Thanks this was really helpful for all small corrections I’m doing on my 2004 Celica, where the paint got stained and another part where I burnt some clear wet sanding a deep scratch, so sanded down to primer for re spray.

Nice work. 3M makes a foam strip that really works well in place of back taping for blend jobs. It comes in a roll and really works well, no edge at all if used properly. Wish you'd wear a dust mask when you're sanding and a better mask when you're spraying. You're face is right down in it buddy. JMO

This type of work is for the used car industry where they want it done fast and cheap., not for the insurance industry. This tech is vey experienced and knows how to do it both ways. if you have made a video that is more helpful please share it with everyone. Thanks for the comment

How can I sand the edges on my Acrylic Enamel where I taped it off (without back-taping)?  I sprayed Omni stock color and did not match my 2000 Ford truck.  I did NOT put clear on afterward.  Waiting for a solution before I clear-coat the fresh patches.  It doesn;t look like rubbing compound would even- out this thick of an edge.  I should have watched your "back-taping" video before I did these 2 damaged spots.  Want to finish this up ASAP.  Thanks.

When blending the clear, I wasn't very clear by the video. You mixed some clear, some reducer and some of the paint and than using that to blend the old and new clear?

you gotta try the new 3m transition tape instead of rolling back the tape. works great on medium to sharp body lines

It’s called a paper masking machine. You get them at Home Depot, Menards and other places. Look in the paint Dept. Thanks

P.S. You always use a rubber pad to level surface primer, not your fingers. You can use a small rubber office eraser with abrasive paper held around it to reduce the work area. What about a mist color to get a really perfect scratch-free surface? Get all the mist color off the putty/primer with abrasive paper.
