What Taiwanese Think of "Chinese Taipei" ?

For those who watch my channel, you probably know that I'll be traveling to France at the end of the month. Of course, I'll also be in Paris to watch the Olympics. The algorithm is truly amazing; one day, it recommended a video from TaiwanPlus Docs on YouTube titled "Who is Chinese Taipei?" I was deeply inspired by the video, so I decided to go out and interview Taiwanese people to hear their thoughts. I want to thank TaiwanPlus Docs YouTube for authorizing the use of their video for this project. I hope you will be inspired as well. Go Taiwan in the Olympics!

Why do you even expect international organizations to change their rules and accept Taiwan as the official name for any Taiwanese delegation, if such a Republic of Taiwan does not even exist in reality? I mean, after all, it seems that Taiwanese people have not even taken any actions to officially change their own government's name from Republic of China to Republic of Taiwan? If you can't even change your own name, then what's the point of asking/forcing everyone else to call you Republic of Taiwan when the government's name is literally Republic of China? You're basically asking the whole world to lie to themselves in order to make you happy?? 😅

That’s rough. None of them knew the history behind Chinese Taipei. Before 1980 Olympics, Taiwan (ROC) competed as “China” and PRC had to compete as ROC, so they boycotted. In 1971, the UN shifted official recognition of China from ROC to PRC. In the Nagoya Resolution of 1979, Taiwan wanted to keep the name China and PRC refused. PRC suggested to call ROC Taipei, China and Taiwan refused because it would limit the territory it claimed. The option of “Taiwan” was raised but both sides shot it down. Chinese Taipei was the compromise

The real reason why Taiwan can not be Taiwan in 1976:
"We announce that the Republic of China Olympic Committee can not accept the proposal put forth by the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee to change the Republic of China name to Taiwan."

當然當時政府內宣只會提到中華民國參賽
像是1960羅馬奧運會楊傳廣得銀牌
回顧原始照片影片
那一年台灣是以Formosa參賽
楊傳廣比賽計分板上顯示的是TWN
但台灣歷史都是說"華人"第一面奧運獎牌 代表"中華民國"
還有楊傳廣是日本時期出生的阿美族
他平時簽名會簽阿美族語的名

台灣最後一次可用Taiwan參賽是1976年的蒙特羅奧運
當時的台灣政府憤而罷賽
之後只能用Chinese Taipei

以那個時期的政府來說
Chinese Taipei是用來取代ROC或China
想用無法用的名稱
並非為了台灣Taiwan/Formosa而取的名

另外Formosa出場的時候是排序F
Taiwan出場的是後是排序T
Chinese Taipei出場的是後是排序T 簡碼是TPE
並非排序C

以前台灣參加奧運在國際是Formosa和Taiwan的時候
内宣可自稱"中華民國隊/中國隊"
但當今台灣參加奧運在國際是Chinese Taipei的時候
內宣繼續自稱"中華隊"

Chinese Taipei=中屬台北

這就是這名字從英文角度會看到的。供參考。
In the perspective of an English speaker, this name refers to a colony or an “overseas territory”, which most Taiwanese just don’t realize.

There is now such thing as "Taiwan flag". It is called the Republic of China flag- Qing tian bai ri man di hong" = The rising sun over a sea of blood in memory of the 1911 revolution that over threw the last imperial dynasty. The Qing dynasty. The rising sun is the Nationalist party flag. If any ruling party wants to declared a "Republic of Taiwan" they will need to amend their constitution and change the flag. If the people on the island won't commit treason why so many Western ignorants want to try to change it?
Do you like foreigners to tamper with your "We the People" constitution? Get educated or stop trying to interfere in other countries affairs.
