Robert Irvine joined UK's Royal Navy at 15 years old, where he became a cook aboard many of the largest ships in the British fleet. He would also go on to serve in the Falklands War defending destroyers stationed outside of the islands.

The organizational and leadership skills Irvine learned from the military helped him become one of the most recognizable chefs after 10 years of service.

Check out our YouTube channel to hear the full interview and more about how this celebrity chef went from burning boiled eggs to having his own reality cooking show (Dinner: Impossible).

With the 22MEU i got to see quite a few countries in '07-'08 aboard an LHD3. Really thinking about planning a 10 day cruise in a few months just to see the ocean from those heights like that again.

The reason the Royal Navy lost so many ships, aircraft and men was because they lacked AWAC’s and EWAC’s. This was because their carriers were too small and used ski ramps instead of catapults. The Royal Navy’s new carriers still cannot operate AWAC’s or EWAC’s meaning 40 years on and the Royal Navy still cannot fight a peer adversary at sea or in the air it has to be supported by ground based aircraft and satellites.

No idea who he is, but being a cook on that ship in context must have given him pause for thought, given what the Exocet missiles had done to other ships. That said, they just be scraping the bottom of the barrel if they’re now interviewing cooks! What’s next, postal workers or dentists?

God bless u sir. Loved his Food Network show when it was on. When the Food Network was not a political platform for the snowflakes in NY.
