Arthur And John BOTH Tried To END Edgar Ross The Same Way When Meeting Him | Red Dead Redemption 2

This was actually a really nice detail I caught. Idk if it was rockstar trying to be slick and give a throwback to when John tried to pull on Ross with his back turned and show Arthur doing the same or if it was just showing how Arthur and John are the same deep down where they don’t care if someone has their back turned they’ll shoot you the cowards way if the need to. It could mean endless things but I just like how they both did and had the same thing in mind when seeing Edgar Ross. They both could have ended him before things got too far but in both instances it was because of Jack that ultimately stopped them #rdr2 #reddeadredemption #arthurmorgan

It's a bit of a stretch to say they tried to end Ross in these encounters, but he certainly touched a raw nerve with each man (Arthur: when Ross spoke to Jack and John: when Ross mentioned Abigail) and they instinctively reacted. Both made a fist then stretched their fingers again, that's a classic readying for a fight movement. To be fair either man could have killed both Milton and Ross in a twinkling. Why Arthur didn't I'm not entirely sure, but it was probably to do with not increasing the interest that was already held in the gang. John didn't because if he had, chances are he'd have never been able to save Abigail and Jack.

You can also see that the camera angle shifts as if you’re going to duel someone. All that’s missing is the trigger guide in the bottom right and the string musical cue.

Killing them would be unwise. The fact that the other agents must've told edgar where the camp is exactly, so if Milton and Ross didn't come back that would mean that the gang is dangerous, might not have given the gang time to change locations. Others would have come in their place anyway.

I always found it interesting the first time Jack and Ross meet in rd2 its by a river and ross has a shotgun. In rd1 when they meet its by a river and ross has a shotgun....

There’s even a scene when Arthur is talking to the guy who’s writing a book about Jim ‘Boy’ Calloway where Arthur says he’s not really a gunslinger, folks who need shooting he shoots in the back. It’s reaffirmed by this scene because he wasn’t waiting for him to lower his weapon, he was waiting for a chance for a shot at his back.

In John’s case, it would have just resulted in losing his family altogether.☹️

It’s not out of character for Arthur to shoot him in the back tbh. He basically makes this clear to the dude writing the book about Calloway when he straight up says he prefers shooting people in the back.

He doesn’t have gunfights for glory, he’s just trying to survive. In this situation if he could’ve shot them both without raising more heat from the Pinkerton’s, he would’ve.
