3DS is.....Overpriced

New 2DS XL used to cost $120 aud during sale. Price skyrocketed during the Ol' rona. Now, its just absurd. But you should probably buy one before it shoots up even further.

Production Note.
This video took me 4 days to make. CRAZY I know. this may be the most complex video I've done so far due to lack of planning and errors in the script. Which is why this video will only have 1 shorts accompanying it. I also wanted to credit the sources in the video with captions, but I was already halfway into editing and couldn't justify the amount of time necessary to pull it off. It's a lot of self justifications here. Also the god damn subtitles. OMG. I tried the automated caption software called captionator and it is so bad I had to manually insert captions one at a time. What a nightmare that was. My next video will likely be uploaded 2 days from now and there will be some changes made to streamline the process. Hopefully put more effort into VoiceOver so I can minimize the manual captions work.

In 2020, my local Walmart was selling the leftovers of their 2DS XL MarioKart bundle consoles. They were only $100 and now I’ve seen the same console go for $300+

You should mention that the eshop has closed down earlier this year. That means no virtual console games or other eshop exclusive titles can be bought anymore, ever again. Physical games are also hard to come around. But! If you hack your 3DS you can still access its whole library AND MORE, unlocking the full potential of this amazing handheld.

I remember in 2019, I wanted a 2DS XL for some exclusives for 100 bucks. So glad I did that now lmao. So many great games and cool mods! Someone actually made it so you can port Sonic Mania from your Steam library on PC to your 3DS!

Also, if you grab a 3DS in good condition I'd definitely recommend buying a hard protective cover for around ten bucks and always store it in a case when not playing. Yes, the cover may be a little uncomfortable, but you definitely want to minimize the amount of scratches and wear if you ever consider reselling it in the future.

It’s ridiculous, I’ve been seeing “New” 3DS’s for like $800, not even the XL’s are that expensive 😭 I am glad my parents bought me my “New” 3DS XL back when I had gotten straight A’s in middle school

I just paid $280 for a New3DSXL about 3 weeks ago. Cosmetically, flawless. Came in box in pretty rough shape. Thank you for making me feel a little less buyers remorse. What a versatile little handheld.

I picked up a 3DS XL with a broken hinge on Facebook market place for about $100 with 5-6 games. I just had a hunch these things were gonna skyrocket.

In response to your comments about emulation, there are workarounds for the issues you mentioned as being absent or not functioning properly. The widely used 3DS emulator, Citra, actually provides 3D support. This feature can be utilized with either a 3D TV or a VR headset. Additionally, for the touchscreen functionality, I personally prefer using the touchpad on a PS4 or PS5 controller.

Part prices are really high as well, I was doing a shell transplant and broke both screens and it is gonna cost like £60, but like 6 months ago they would only be like £30.

I got mine before prices skyrocketed. Back in January i got my New 3DS LL from Japan for about $167. I homebrewed it and put english cfw on it and love the thing.

When I heard the 2DS/3DS were being discontinued, I bought a sealed New 2DS XL in case my main New 3DS breaks down. So glad I got the 2DS knowing what the current prices are. I still have it sealed

The real strat is to buy a used 3DS (whatever model you want) with a good amount of wear that still functions properly, and do a full shell swap. It takes extra work, but probably your cheapest option to get one in good condition, provided you don't care if it's the original shell.

A good thing to do is also look for refurbished systems. I was able to get a (internal) refurbished New 3ds XL for $200, and I changed the shell it came in out for something I liked more later

The 3DS also has the SD card located in an easier to acces place than the New 3DS XL. I do not know about the other models, but if you are to often replace the SD card then the New 3DS XL and maybe certain other versions of the 3DSes may not be the right choice for you.
