Indonesian here, and yes, there are some people who pretend to be beggars but are really rich.. mansions and stuff. I feel bad for the people who are actually in need not being able to get help from the community.

Here in Indonesia there are some people who even have babies for rent in order to fish people out of their pity, it's just messed up.
Edit : So basically they rent their babies to these "beggars" then the beggars show up somewhere holding these babies to show that they're in need of money.

the beggar thing was getting kinda crazy sometime, like they rent out kid or even use someone else's kid (without their parents permission) as a prop for their "begging job". my friend told me that one time she saw a kid who looks like her friend's toddler in a hot day outside napping in some random beggar's lap, as it turns out her friend's nanny was renting out their kid to the beggar, and then they gave the kid like a cough syrup so the kid just sleep the whole time

I remember there is a city mayor always give a job to beggars. One day he met a beggar and gave the beggar a job but the beggar did not shows up. After that the mayor met the same beggar so he ordered arrest.

I'm an American and we call them panhandlers. They yell at and even sometimes assault people who only give them food and refuse to give them money. Many of them wear military uniforms to get pity, but they're often wearing the wrong ones. My stepdad once cussed out a dude wearing a Vietnam uniform in his 20s.
