This is a nice board. From the manual: "When M.2_3 is enabled, PCIEX16_1 will run x8 and PCIEX16_2 will run x4" so yeah, out of four m2 slots, one gen5 is useless, that leaves you with two gen5s and one gen4, that's a generous assortment if you want to upgrade in the future with more than one gen5 in the system evantually. Other boards in this category usually have one gen5 and 2-3 gen4, one of which may be restricted.

I think the MSI X670 Carbon is pretty solid. 2 Gen 5 M2 slots without losing GPU lanes. No USB4 though, which is not a must have for me. You can run 2 GPUs at x8 for those that need it. I've had no issues.

2.5Gb Ethernet port for that price is insane.

4:35 this may be the cheapest current mobo that has post code LEDs... def one of the cheapest if not the cheapest. That's cool. You know what else is cool? Having post code LEDs on $250 motherboards, too.

Another thing I found out looking at manuals while shopping for an AM5 mobo is the PCIe 4.0 X4 SB-CPU uplink. You mention it in passing in the video, but I believe it's actually crucial information because there's generally a lot of stuff crammed into that link - USB, SATA, PCIe and M.2 ports. I think this can become a real bottleneck with some heavy I/O workloads. LGA1700 is better in terms of PCIe lanes and MB uplink imho, but the downside with that platform - aside from the crazy power draw - is the very limited upgrade path as well as the i7-i9 stability/degradation issues - and of course the loss of trust that ensues.

Anyway, nice board presentation/summary 👍

Was comparing between this vs the ProArt X670E... in the end chose the ProArt as it has 2 x USB4 port, but lesser 10Gbps Type A port.

Nice board overview. When is is the review coming out?

this "marketing snafus" are why I went with the x670e PRO ART it was the only AM5 mobo that could simultaneously run the video card and two M.2 gen slots at full gen 5 speeds.

I plan to go with ASRock X670E Steel Legend.

If I were buying now I’d be getting the X670E Taichi.

Thanks for the video. I got this mobo this summer and did not know about the little square pads, I populated slots 1, 2 and 4 with Samsung 990PRO without the little pads in 2 and 4. Maybe when I upgrade my CPU I'll have a look at those.

Does the 2nd channel of ram have a latency discrepancy like the LGA1700 motherboards? Where you naturally need to downclock the ram to run 2 kits of ram? And or buy $500 kits of overclocking ram?

The ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI is about the same price and I think it has better value. 10 gig for one along with USB4/Thunderbolt.

I hope ASUS gets their QC and customer service sorted. In the meantime I am waiting for the X870 chipsets to arrive for my next build, and for the first time my computer won’t have an ASUS motherboard

Sometimes if the pci riser cable is kinda mid then you can force to an older generation and get it to work. So if you didnt have video and you are using a pci riser cable you can use that toggle to swap to attempt to get video out... It is kinda dumb because you are spending at much as you are on the motherboard that why would you skimp on the riser cable, so probably more of a troubleshooting toggle.

I've been looking at this motherboard and their Crosshair because I am coming from Crosshair Hero VI which was around $250 when I bought it 6 years ago.
I am flabbergasted at the inflation on Asus' Crosshair and Strix product line.

Anyone has more affordable recommendations that rival these ones?
So far I've read MSI X670 Carbon and ASRock X670E Steel Legend?

I have it and use it with 96GB RAM (2x48) at 5600mhz (Ryzen 9 7950x3d). It works fine at 6000mhz, (for the most part, to be completely 100% honest, since I have some issues wich I'm still trying to understand, but it seems it has nothing to do with the ram speeds) but I keep it at 5600 to be extra safe. Also, I use 3 Gen 4 nvme and leave that slot that shares bandwith with the GPU alone. Gen 5 nvme prices doesn't make much sense right now, so maybe only in the future I get one.
