I explicitly notice this when I first start reading a novel each day. It takes a few minutes sometimes even 30 minutes to completely forget all your problems and get in that groove. Man do I enjoy that feeling when you don't even notice the words any more, you're just picturing the events.

SubhanAllah... As muslims we're advised to look at the spot we will bow down at to stay focus on our prayer... Amazing

I work at home and for most people, the internet can be a pretty distracting thing. This here's a weird thing I used to do that gets my mind back into work mode.

I used to be in the military and in boot camp when called out to the hallway of the dorms everyone would race out and individuals would count down the line 1 to 50 (50 people in that particular cohort).

So what I do is stand up, go out of the my room, stand in the door at attention and count in my head to 50. During the 50 count a lot of the distractions I have are flushed out but it also triggers my mind to be in a state of readiness to do something because often a direction was given after this point by the corporal / DI.

What this does is it gives you a voice to drive you in a particular direction. Take control and be the boss of your own mind if you will.

Not sure how effective this would be on civilians who aren't conditioned for this but worked for me and overtime distractions/procrastinating became less of an issue.

I tried this once when i was bored and 10 yo at home… Just kept staring at an alarm clock with no second hands, then the minute hand started to walk from 12oclock to 6oclock right before my eyes… I was having a focus so intense, I could actually watch and follow the minute hand’s movement. When I zoomed out and expanded my view, and relaxed, it felt like only 5mins had passed. I checked the time on the other clocks, and indeed 30 mins has passed, as I witnessed from the alarm clock. It’s really crazy how much scrutiny u can achieve when u just focus.

Knowledge gives confidance, about your task. Knowing steps to achieve tasks gives vision, which creates focus. Having small steps and deadlines always helps.

I call it putting the horse blinders on, or narrowing the aperture. Such titles really make the figurative act feel quite official so I can get to work.

I'm so interested but also had to rewatch the video like 4 times. Honestly guided meditation can help so much in this exact sense. It may not feel like it's owning buteditatins is a workout for your brain. You learn to take a deep breath and instantaneously become present which helps you prioritize and do exactly what he's saying, it helps you learn to conscious of your thoughts and be more aware of your focus.

My adhd just sorta does this for me if I watch a good movie/tv show or read a good book, a sudoku or Rubix cube I love them I just hone in and the whole world disappears and all I see is those things. Adhd has a lot of downsides but that’s one effect I love
