when I was admitted to a mental hospital as a child for an eating disorder, I pretended to be a mentally ill phychopath, scaring other patients and trying to scare nurses with scary messages about things I overheard or read about them. I am sometimes still wondering if anyone got life long scars from that.

I wasn’t a worker but when I was admitted for self harm I was put in a room with a woman who had tried to unalive me with a knife she had snuck in, said I was the one who got her child taken from her later saying I killed her child, no matter how many times I cried or woke up screaming for help “it wasn’t my problem” and I had to “just ignore it” so I had to sneak into other girls rooms just to feel safe and got caught multiple times, I’m so glad I never went back!

I'm with late shift and we get info from the early shift. The head nurse really told the team not to wake an older lady in the middle of the night for washing anymore, because SHE CAN TELL HER FAMILY!
There were a lot of things wrong there and I feel like I didn't even saw the worse. But that was for me the straw to never work in geriatric care.
How broken a person and nurse you need to be, to talk and agree with this statement.

They did things they knew weren't in the patients best interest, and did it only because they aren't capable tell their families.

Sadly I didn't stand up right then and there, I just told my teacher and wrote an statement about the unethical and endangering practices on this ward to the hospital head.
Don't think it changed a lot, today I knew I should have gone either public or at least even higher.

I was involuntarily hospitalized for my mental health about a year ago, and I had a cartoonishly horrific time, but had a instant sorta like this.

there was this patient named Carolyn, she came up to me frequently, claiming she knew me, a bunch of stuff like that, most of the time she was wrong with the info she gave.
But once, she came up and said "Hey, I'm your aunt Cara, I'm sad you didn't call me."

I have an aunt Cara, one I'm astranged from due to her drug abuse but my mother recently gave her number to me to get back into contact only a week before I was put in the hospital. I chose not to call her, then forgot about it.
I hadn't told ANYONE about my aunt, especially not there, the saying "a broken clock is right twice a day" is something but it freaked me the fuck out and I remember shutting down a bit and avoiding her for a while after that. I actually questioned if she was my aunt.

The lack of humanity many nurses and techs have is hard for patients. They treat us all as if we have the same thing. I knew a 17 yr old who was in for smoking cigarettes, not even weed. But in that same ward was someone who was multi-time arsonist who had a court date for killing their dad a week later.

As someone who was transferred from hospital to rtc, back and forth, for 2 years honestly this wouldn't even be the scariest thing that would have happened to me. Yeah, paranormal stuff is scary but imagine being that kid. I was 14 getting death threats, watching kids actively trying to k!ll themselves, and so so much more. Staff did almost nothing. They only acted when the kids would try and hurt them. If they tried to hurt other kids or themselves the kids would just be punished or ignored. I still have ptsd from those places. Im no better mentally than i was when i wad 14. I just am better at hiding it enough not to go back.
