I bought a PS Vita and Persona 4 Golden when it came out (my first Persona game) Best purchases I ever made. Persona has a way of turning people into Persona fans the moment they start playing.

Persona > Final Fantasy
Glad to see to a developer embracing what made them successful in the first place.

Persona 5 is a truly special and wonderful experience that not only warmed my heart (and made it feel like it was going to stop at times :P), but as a game... it was transcendent. I know a lot of people might see this game as another anime romp, but if you look at it that way you are doing yourself a disservice. I may not be the same (as i love anime), but even if i didn't i know for a fact that the story in this game, the world it created, the characters that i fell in love with, not to mention the Gameplay from combat to social simulation that truly captivated me...

This game is my game of the year. I know more amazing games will come. I poured tons of time in to Horizon: Zero dawn, Zelda, Nioh and more. But this game surpasses them all. It made me feel. It made me laugh, cry, get angry, feel remorse and regret and equal parts joy and elation. A game doesn't make you feel that way if it can't suck you in. It can't affect you without first and foremost taking your heart (pun slightly intended :P).

This game is beyond game of the year for me, if i have to be honest. I've played some amazing games and i think this should have been one of the few games to get a 10 on Gamespot, but reviews are subjective and i'll tell you this now; it doesn't matter. Persona 5 will go down in my life as one of, if not the greatest rpgs I've played to date. There will be more wonderful games in the future, but as this man said with Chrono Trigger... Persona 5 will remain in my heart till the day i die.

Because Persona 5 embrace what it meant to be a JRPG. What Final Fantasy XV lack is the identity of it. Final Fantasy XV felt it was a JRPG but also a WRPG and it loses it's identity.

Persona 4 and Persona 5 has the same timer thingy that felt each day, each grinding, each hanging out with friends, each interaction feels meaningful. Each new play felt like your own fantasy highschool story.

P3, P4, P5 party felt like a real human because the deep psychological trauma, hardship that felt we can relate to them.

Persona 5 is my 2016 GOTY and also 2017 GOTY.

I live in the UK and it's sold out everywhere that isn't trying to sell it for more then 60 pounds (75 dollars)... Dammit! The one time preordering would have been totally worth it *sigh* Anyway, great video, Mike.

I'm glad Atlus is finally getting the attention it deserves. They've been lowkey making the best damn JRPGs for well over a decade now. I'm glad they hit the jackpot for the mainstream market with Persona.

I'm about 10 hours in so far, and yup this my goty so far. Hopefully more developers will start to realise that turn based jrpg's can still be awesome.

"Just when I thought I knew a character, they revealed something about their past or their life at home and it warped my perception."

That's Persona for you. It might as well be called 'Hidden Depths: The Video Game Series'.

11 hours in and defeating the first dungeon... Eeyup, this game was everything I dreamed of and more. I never screamed in glee like a little boy when playing games usually. So yeah, Persona 5 has definitely took my heart and ran away with it.

Persona 5 really is something special... I'm also someone who grew up loving JRPG's. Found the same lack lately... I've never played a Persona game before, but I Love this game. When I eventually beat it, I know, I will be very, very sad. You don't get something like this often.

What BOTW did to open world, Persona 5 did to JRPGs or maybe RPGs in general

I completely share your sentiment towards JRPGs. After I became tired of the repetition in FF13 I was turned off the genre and never really looked back. And then I found Persona 4 Golden and fell in love, it made me realize that JRPGs can be as great as something like The Last of Us, and Persona 5 is blowing my mind on an hourly basis.

Second, the editing and transitions in this video are really amazing, great job guys!

In fact, I hate them
BUT WHY DO I LOVE PERSONA SO MUCH GODDAMIT

Dude, every single Persona game, especially 3 and after, does this. Time management is crucial, and nothing is ever wasted. This is I think most true in 5, but 4 also does an amazing job with this, and 3, while a little more arbitrary with its deadlines (and not allowing you to control your party members isn't the best) is still really good.

Very articulate, well expressed on a subject which I often can't quite put a finger on but understand.

I played Chrono Trigger late as an adult, I loved it sooo much though. I think that as an adult you can appreciate it more.
