Hey Viking King, big fan here. Pls don't get confused as this model has a very specific target market in Asia were Japanese reign supreme for decades.
It's becoming a phenomenon as it just started to kill Japanese car sales slowly.
It's a disruptor as PHEV has never been this affordable and accessible to us.
It's the perfect way to kick off electrification as we don't have accessible charging stations yet, not that many as in.

Obsolete and Poorly packaged my ass. One other article says this - 99 others says it's a damn good car. You went and bought 2 EVs. In my book, that makes your mindset and viewpoint is a biased one.

Everything you buy today will be obsolete some time in the near future. It's just a dumb fact. Have you seen the size of the boot in the seal?

Fact is everyone has different needs. For many, a Sealion6 is perfect for theirs and they should definitely buy it. Obviously not for you from this one sided waste of time.

My advice - stick to evs buddy

I live in the Philippines, charging infrastructure here is literally near zero. I can charge at my home and some hotels.... so a hybrid PHEV like BYD's which can deliver 500+ km in range is the best option for me. I can't go all out on electric yet.

BYD "obsolete" technology is still miles more advanced than Toyota, Honda, Mazda. Sealion is much more efficient n better in more metrics than Rav4 the segment leader

Mate you are 200% incorrect . Have owned this car for 2 months and love our SL6 ! Test drove Model Y and model 3, and value for money bought the BYD SL6 way better!Watched your whole video and still do not regret our decision . The pro's definitely outweigh any cons you stipulate. Our family love the car . It's like driving a luxurious car at a non luxurious price compared to other cars . It has been perfect for Sydney roads ! The bonus we have petrol option for long drives we plan to do this summer. We've only filled our SL6 Premium AWD once since purchase, the savings are second to none. This phev car has been the perfect solution for our family, and looks fab! And lastly, NO range anxiety mate, can't beat that !
Happy BYD SL6 🛞

This video is one of the worst Sam has made for some time. I thought he had lifted his game recently.

Im interested in buying the Sealion 6, because from all the cars available today, it's still an attractive package. Most reviews regarding the Sealion 6 are positive. Cars Guide, EV Quest, Jerry Pan, Car Expert, The Right Car. The common theme most journalists picked up is the soft ride.

Could Sam be benefiting promoting the Xpeng G6?

There is a whole wide world out there that doesn't have amazing charging infrastructure, think about them buddy. We watch you as well.Places in Middleeast like Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and most places In Asia like Pakistan, India or Nepal. For these market its a bargain to get sealion 6 rather than a Toyota Rav4 or Corolla cross hybrid. Waiting for the new version of thier hybrid system. It's amazing to see 1.5l/100km

So we just tested this car along with other members of the philippine automotive media. The challenge was to drive to 1000km without refueling.

We're only halfway done with our trip and I dunno about the issue with the suspension or the traffic sign recognition.

It didn't happen on our test. We, of course, haven't uploaded our full review, but so far, we're very impressed.

I get that the next gen will be even better than this, but for the PH market and what's available now and in relation to our country's EV infrastructure.

Its a no-brainer. Great car for the price. It is possibly one of the best value cars out there for the PH market. A lot of folks dont want to wait.

in my opinion you have completely misunderstood the analysis of this car... the car was created for people who do not want to switch to pure ev yet and who do not want to have "recharging anxiety". If we talk about obsolete cars... well, pure electric cars in general are the first, the models change so quickly that a battery today is already old... and then will electric be the future? if you read around no one is sure.

Really just nitpicking here, non of these things mentioned actually make the Sealion6 obsolete right now. The 5th generation DM hybrid system in question with a claimed 2000km range is based on China's cltc drive cycle. In reality as tested in conditions primarily involving highway driving of speeds ranging from 80 to 110km/h it managed 1350km or 1450km if ran dry with an average of 4.5l/100km. The boot isn't class leading but passenger comfort is good offering above average leg- and knee-room, it is the same as the Song Plus EV in terms of space and there were no complaints from you there lol. The ride isn't perfect but it is comfortable quiet and smooth coupled with an EV range of up to 100km and real world efficiency makes for a very useable and livable driving experience and compared to its competitors the tech and all the spec you get for the money makes it a very solid choice.

Sealion 6 is so much better than rav4 which is one of the best selling cars in Australia. You gotta do more research man

not obsolete here in Australia, with long distances and very poor charging infrastructure in large areas. I can drive Sydney to Brisbane in my SL6 Dynamic without spending hours planning my EV needs. I'll get an EV (maybe the SL7) in a couple of years but meanwhile I think the SL6 seems sensible for this country (and its selling well so I'm not alone). As for boot space, yes its not good, but rear legroom is huge so for me thats all useable space as I rarely carry four adults around with big luggage.,

I disagree, for developing countries, where the public charging infrastructure is still lacking. Going PHEV way is a good way to charge at home, go to work and come back using pure EV mode, Then when require to go longer distant may just fill up without worries on charging infrastructure. This BYD Sealion 06 DM-i is till better than any RAV4 HEV which is cheaper and more accessible.

Sealion 7 seems the alternative when it becomes available.

I own an Atto 3, and i'm waiting for the Sealion 7 BEV. The boot of the 6 has no depth as if the fuel tank is taking up half the expected space. Thanks for the video, as i'll check on the technology in the 7.

I went to BYD Auckland last weekend, I test drove all models apart from the dolphin. My verdict: Atto3 are too funky for my taste. Seal has the best driving experience. Sealion was the overall winner for me. It is a lot more practical to own a SUV vehicle in NZ (kids, dogs, sport gear). It is a bit on the soft side, but hey, you're only paying sub 60K NZD for a brand new SUV.
On the liter/km side, I am not too worry, as 99% of the my daily will be under 90km which can be covered by its blade battery alone.
The extra cost on 95 octane fuel and 4.4l/km for long trip is like once in a blue moon thing, I can accept it.
Being a PHEV is kind of like a piece of mind when you wonder into the unknow, you know you can always made it back home,
It also amazed me that, the ICE engine does not transfer power to the wheels via a transmission gear, instead it send power to the electric motor. One less thing to go wrong.

This person seems to have limited knowledge about PHEVs and DM-i technology. He is suggesting that someone considering a PHEV should instead buy an electric car. He's recommending against buying a current BYD PHEV because he thinks BYD new PHEV going to release in next year that can travel 2, 000 kilometers. That's a ridiculous claim. It's like saying you shouldn't buy a 2025 model car because a 2026 model is coming soon

When I hear someone say the boot is small I am positive about this because that obviously means more legroom for passengers in the backseat. What is wrong putting shopping bags on unused car seats if they all can't fit in the boot?

I suggest going for the BYD Walrus. It's got a beautiful aggressive looking front grille and a big ass rear booty !!
