In the 60s the UK was the worlds largest motorcycle manufacturer with many models, we also had a thriving home grown auto manufacturing...then Japan came along...now its japans turn

Oh, i have been listening diligently, Sam! My understanding is that BYD has narrowed down to 3 locations not far across the border. They say they are not "planning" US entry, but I pray and believe otherwise. We need them. Right now Tesla has monopoly. They need real competition. Legacy auto in the US has not risen to the occasion.

Why don't you talk about BYDs launch in PAKISTAN?? They are going to build cars in Karachi, PAKISTAN soon. Japanese companies have been building cars there for over 40 years.

To succeed in Japan, BYD bed "kei" cars, as they take 40% of the market, with Honda being the market leader.

I think BYD will likely do an alliance with the Honda/Nissan/Mitsubishi consortium and build battery packs and drive trains for future Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi models. It's a lot less politically controversial and BYD could build factories to assemble the battery packs and drivetrains here in the USA and ship them to Honda and Nissan assembly plants all over North America. I can foresee a future version of the Honda Fit that will use a BYD battery pack and drivetrain but the rest of the car, including the interior, will be all Honda.

Is Toyota not part of “Japan?” 😂 BYD hasn’t overtaken Japan until they’ve passed Toyota!

BYD wants to make a strong attack in Europe in the next few years, but at the moment it does not look like it will storm the European markets. Deliveries of electric cars have been weak for months in many European markets, and the sales situation at BYD in particular is not very dynamic. Our ports, especially in Wilhelmshaven, are more like a scrap yard for EVs that have been stored for two years and are now unsellable.

Ford and GM walked away from the sedan market. Not everyone wants a stupid pickup truck that you can't park .

When byd figures out how to produce in North America without being tarrifed then manufacturers will start to care about affordability 🤣 until then they will lose profits because of greed

I am an American, and I am sick of the legacy institutions here dictating what I should do with my hard earned money, I bought a Kia Nero plug in hybrid. Its been the best car I have ever owned!! All American car manufacturers except Tesla I hope will go out of business.

I'll wait until an ESUV with CATL battery and GAC Aon sometimes next year when I would've moved to Ferntree Gully with solar roofed:)

Sam not an EV question but a solar question as you an advocate of both. Which of Australian city or state will i (a visitor from the US) see the most/best adaption up solar power/energy independence? Hard to see what's coming down the road with US solar industry dying or scaling down with Biden incentives dwindling. Thanks for any suggestions.

The US and EU cannot compete with 'China speed'. What used to take three years for a new model to a apppear, Chinese auto makers do it in one year. China's vertical integration makes cost very competitive that western automakers cannot achieve given all the subcontractors it uses to make cars. Once the Chinese cars develop their reputation for reliability, quality, price, and workmanship, it will be hard for western companies to compete. Already we are seeing western companies forming joint ventures with Chinese companies to learn the ropes from the Chinese. It is ironic that when the Chinese needed JV to learn the ropes on ICE vehicles, all we heard was IP theft. Let's see what comes now the west wants JV for EV production.

That's an amazing news. My question is though, what % of this world's 7th rank sales volume was sold to OUTSUDE of China?
I know the answer but you guys do your own homework. Chinese known population is 1.4 billion plus of which number of household is roughly 700million(or more) any "developed country" should have roughly 1.5 car per household. BYD sold 3million plus in 2nd qtr.
They have quite a few more to sell in their own country alone (700 mil times 1.5 car avg household) Again you do the math.
