Ryan Gosling stars as a Hollywood stunt driver for movies by day and moonlights as a wheelman for criminals by night. Though a loner by nature, “Driver” can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband. After a heist goes wrong, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). Soon he realizes the gangsters are after more than the bag of cash and is forced to shift gears and go on the offense.

I love this scene because at no point before is the audience exposed to this type of violence. This comes out of NOWHERE almost half way? into the movie, and the shock value alone sets the tone for the rest of the film. Almost reminds me of the first episode of Invincible

This movie has barely any violence and it makes these parts so much more real.

This film is both artistic and action packed. Loved it.

I’m glad he’s making movies again. He’s been killing it lately

The very first person to die being the unsuspecting victimhood character is such a realistic touch, I love it

One of those films I can’t wait to show someone when they’ve never seen it before

Fun Fact: after the production of this movie, it was discovered that the Driver is literally me. It is me who he is like. I am him.

If you saw a guy like Gosling walking down the street, you’d never think he’d be capable of something like this. That’s good acting

Everyone talks about the sudden out of the blue violence, but no one talks about the real reason it feels so shocking. Most people are used to sudden violent scenes by now. But it’s rare to find scenes in action films that use SILENCE this effectively. If feels shocking and real because that’s exactly what it would sound like during and after and event like that. No score to try to stir up an emotion, nothing. Just silence and a ringing in your ears, left to contemplate the fact that you just witnessed three murders in front of you.

This is basically a dude where his threshold for danger is very high. Like your average person in that situation would obviously go into a state of panic, and then in the state of panic obviously they wouldn't be able to think very well. However you see how when he knows that there's danger instead everything slows down. It's really impressive, like we've heard of people who just don't respond to Danger as much, but it's kind of Epic to see in a movie.

I love his creativity with self defense. The mattress as a blocking barrier and the shower rod as his weapon, genius!

This movie was haunting and stuck with me the first few times I’ve watched it.
I hated it a little because of how it got into my mind.
Looking back on it now, I am a fan and I appreciate it BECAUSE not very many movies these days are able to do that.
The best movies are ones that stick with you no matter how hard you try to shake them.

The director is a master of subtlety in most of the personal interactions of the characters in this movie, then he switched abruptly to the swift, bloody, brutal violence of a Kurosawa samurai movie. The beautiful soundtrack meshed so well with movie, like John Barry's soundtrack did for "The Specialist" with Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone.

This was my favorite scene in the movie "The Notebook".

The point of no return for him. He saw what he had done and slipped into the dark. He's the scorpion and ultimately from now on it's in his nature to do these things.

Ryan Gosling is amazing. I admire him so much. Fantastic acting. Cool as a cucumber. Great looking. And his low-key personality and tendency to avoid the spotlight other than to act in very good films just make him that much more of a stud.
