Learn step by step directions for solving percent word problems.PERCENT WORD PROBLEMS
We use the proportion
Part/ Total = %/100
to solve a word problem involving percent.
You should ALWAYS have 3 numbers in your proportion and 1 variable (the unknown).
You'll use PART/TOTAL when you have these type of longer word problems.
IS/OF is used for the problems with very few words, but there is ALWAYS an IS and an OF in them.
Example #1:
Out of 250 songs Luis has on his i-Phone, 5 songs are from the 80's.
What percent of his songs are from the 80's?
part = %
total 100
Example #2:
There are 350 total sixth graders at MMS. 70% are enrolled in a
music class. How many are enrolled in a music class?
