Outer Space is an amalgamation of mysterious rocks. Some of these are potentially hazardous objects, others are not so dangerous.
However, NASA also keeps us up to date about what is happening around our planet. The space agency has raised a warning about another giant asteroid approaching Earth at the end of this April month.
The gigantic space rock, dubbed 2008 AG33, is the largest known asteroid scheduled to make a close approach to our planet this month.
According to data from CNEOS, the Asteroid 2008 AG33 will be making its closest approach with Earth on April 28 at , where it will come within 2 million miles of Earth.
According to NASA's Center for Near-Earth Studies, 2008 AG33 is estimated to anywhere between 1,083 feet and 2,428 feet in diameter based on its observable magnitude.
If the upper estimate is true, the asteroid would be almost as wide as two Empire State Buildings stacked on top of each other or nearly the same size as the the world's tallest building—the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Besides its huge size, Asteroid 2008 AG33 is also traveling at staggering speed. CNEOS figures indicates that at the time of its close approach, 2008 AG33 will be moving at roughly 23,200 miles per hour. This is around twelve times faster than a rifle bullet.
This massive asteroid is unlikely to hit Earth, however, as per NASA calculations it will pass safely.
NASA's database indicates that there is an even huge space rock to make a close approach to Earth this year, with its diameter estimated to be 1.1 miles across
