10*12in = 10 feet, not 12 feet. 10*10 = 100 / 3 = 33 yards. Either your range finder is off or you estimated incorrectly. Regardless, thanks for the explanation.

The real rule of thumb is from old English law, where you aren't allowed to beat a woman with a stick of a diameter, larger than your thumb.

I think it's a bit limiting, and doesn't take into account how sassy those creatures can get, but that's progressives for you!
