The beautiful strings of David Lindley. I know that he will be missed by his friend Jackson🌷

Absolutely love this stripped down version with minimal percussion. And, as always, David Lindley shines. RIP Mr Lindley.

Rest in Peace David Lindley. A fine musician who added so much to Jackson's music and success. I was lucky enough to see them together several times, great times.

Perfect interplay between Lindley's mandola and Browne's guitar. Both fit perfectly with the poetry of the lyrics. Must have been something to hear it live.

This is such a beautiful composition and arrangement. What has happened to us that we can't recognize music like this anymore? Five (5) comments? This song has been hidden away for many decades. Thank you for bringing it back! Lovely lovely work!

The greatest poetic body of work on "love and loss" that any poet has ever produced. This may be the most intimate.

Real music, real musicians, real lyrics. Not over produced, no bs. How refreshing!

Listening to Jackson Browne lyrics and music since around 1970. Still hits a bullseye on my own life and feelings and I'm 67 now. A timeless musician and poet. David Lindley, not too shabby either, only one of my all time favorite guitar players! Ha Ha The music and the words that these too collaborated on can inspire so much raw emotion!!!

One of my favorite Jackson Browne's "the relationship tanked" songs-and this duo of Lindley and Browne with no other accompaniment is incredibly moving! As he begins to pay the toll that a refusal to die young brings, a weaker voice, or shorter air etc., I hope more young people discover his word craft and poetic emotion in song form.

The essence of the song, unencumbered by unnecessary, albeit beautiful, orchestration.  Thank you Jackson and David.  See you on Maui April 8 and am so looking forward to it!  Blessings, Ed<><

This is my favorite JB album in terms of composition and arrangement (as Ron says), and is he and dear David's peak quality performance live, IMHO.

Look for the tiny desk concert version of this. Not that this one is bad, but the tiny desk thing is magic. I saw JB live in 2015 during the into the breach tour right after Glen Frye died. He encored with running on empty. He mentioned it. It was such a great show.
