Doner kebab sandwich in Berlin
The sliced meat of a doner kebab may be served on a plate with various accompaniments, stuffed into a pita or other type of bread as a sandwich, or wrapped in a thin flatbread such as lavash or yufka, known as a dürüm (literally meaning roll or wrap in Turkish). Since the early 1970s, the sandwich or wrap form has become popular around the world as a fast food dish sold by kebab shops, and is often called simply a "kebab". The sandwich generally contains salad or vegetables, which may include tomato, lettuce, cabbage, onion with sumac, fresh or pickled cucumber, or chili, and various types of sauces.

My name is Cory and I am from the USA and I fell in love with a woman from Germany named Little Bee! I was hoping we would be married before I left Germany! However, life does not always go according to plan or logical! So I am hiking in Croatia at the moment trying to get healthy and love my life 😊

Afaik the german döner is a german-turkish dish. A turkish imigrant opened a restaurant in germany tried sell the original turkish döner. There were not too many customers and he wondered why, because the the feedback for the taste was quite good. Then he realized that the german people were always busy to stop and sit down for eating. So he decided to sell the dish "to go" in a pita bread (originally it is served on a plate with rice or fries).

Glad you liked it! The messier it is the better it tastes, you can never have enough napkins with a Döner! (And now I'm hungry...)

Gyros and Döner are basically the same. Greece was under Ottoman rule for centuries and adopted much of the cuisine, but coined Greek names for all the dishes. Of course there are slight variations.

German street food! Real good and available at all hours (at least in Berlin). Yes I do think it’s Turkish but I think the Germans invented the rotating meat part? (Doner Kebap) I’m probably remembering it wrong, I was told this in Germany many years ago. I think it was developed in Germany by Turkish folks...? Something like that. I would love to know the actual history if someone knows.

It's Turkish. Popular all over Europe. I'm not so fond, no. I prefer the version without bread, as I try to keep my carbs to a minimum. The veggies and meat are ok, but no bread.
