I did 300 situps a day for a year (here's what it did)

Looking back on a time where I did 300 situps a day.

I want to add: if you're doing this or any other exercise program and you love it and it's getting you closer to the goals you want, you can probably keep doing it! I share stories just to give context or entertain - I don't mean for them to confuse anyone.

I used to do 100s of sit ups when I was a teen. One thing I learned that surprised me was how tiring it was for my neck. Those last reps would have me flexing my neck muscles like crazy trying to get up.

I got tired just watching you do this...I used to be SO FIT and now in my early 60's...not so much...still giving it my best and trying to do something everyday. Thank you for your encouragement and videos.

I remember first starting out and solely spamming mediocre ab workouts because I thought the six-pack was the key to strength, speed, mobility, durability, health, wealth, fame, fortune, world hunger, peace, interplanetary travel, timeline hopping, universal rebirth, ascending to god consciousness, opening pickle jars, fusing parallel universes, and kick-starting the Second Coming

2:55 i honestly didn't prepared for this transition from a beginner's sit up to L-sit!! respect brother Hamton... and impressed on seeing how casually you are doing and not including this type of stuff in "other than necessary videos" for not bragging, you are build different

The response you noted around 5:36 was funny, and technically correct,

Which is USUALLY the best kind of correct,

BUT

in this case, "tailbone mobility" is not referring to moving the fused coccyx into unfused positions,

Rather, it is the idea of using lumbar and sacral movement to mobilize the coccyx.

Reference "Becoming a Supple Leopard" by Dr. Kelly Starrett,

Chapter 1: MIDLINE STABILIZATION AND ORGANIZATION (SPINAL MECHANICS),

subsection:

A Braced Neutral Spine: The Key to Moving Safely and Effectively

---

Honestly, going through The Bracing Sequence in that chapter and seeing whether or not it immediately changes your calisthenics would be a great falsification and testing opportunity 😊

The basic stuff (like sit-ups) are so underrated IMO. 300 a day is super impressive btw bro! I would still get rekt by that lol

@4:00 yes you are 100% correct, we DO literally breathe out burned fat.
Its all to do with how the chemical reaction takes place within our body.
There's a fantastic TED talk from an Australian scientist about 8-10 years ago. Worth the watch.

Losing fat is a combination of sweating and exhaling. Specifically, the end result of the chemical reaction is carbon dioxide and water. I believe it is in an 80/20 ratio with the majority being carbon dioxide. There's a TED talk about this.

Doing mega amounts of an exercise is for me at least a to me a time issue. I need to to be a reasonable steward of my time and devoting many hours per day to exercise is not being that - for me at least. Good vid. Keep at it.

Awesome Hampton! I used to do (as a young man) 100 sit-ups a day with a 25 lb. plate behind my head. Then for New Years I did 1000 sit-ups consecutively in just under 45 minutes. Now I’m an ancient warrior of 67 I don’t train abs because ATG goblet squats pull-ups and dips all work your core.

Regarding your tailbone scab...

It is apparently very common to have an infection at the base of the tailbone. There's a medical term for this But I do not recall what it is. It is very similar to a clogged duct or pimple. There are hairs there that get infected. A lot of people have to have a small surgery to clear all that out. You probably have that. If there is a hard place at the base of your spine, especially if it's on one side then you probably do. Unless it acts up, you're fine living with it, but it's an easy common surgery to fix it.

Especially if the sit-up you’re doing is mostly hip flexors, rather than crunching to prioritise the abs

4:13 I've also noticed my husband, who is Asian, never has body odor, never smells. It is a real thing.

Thanks for the tip! I used to do tons of situps upstairs where the floor was wood and the carpet was wool, and I always did situps where my arms were over my head and my feet were held down. (I thought it was cheating if my arms or legs moved.) However, I could not do that downstairs where the floor was tile and concrete slab. I quit after 5 situps, knowing my tailbone would hate me otherwise. I have a yoga mat now, and I've done situps again, but I never made it to 300, and I don't think my body likes consistent situps every night. Especially if that's the only muscle excersice I'm doing. It's nice to know that all our hiatuses away from situps are not a waste, and that it's important not to push our abs too hard.

What do you think of the One Punch Man workout?
100 Pushups, 100 Sit Ups, 100 Squats and a 10KM (6.2 Mile) Run everyday.
