On December 19, 2023, deputies were called to a disturbance in Sheboygan Falls, WI. A man had become upset after receiving legal papers from his significant other and started destroying property. When deputies arrived, he warned them to stay back before igniting a piece of paper and dropping it in gasoline.

For a few seconds I thought the police were crazy for leaving the guy handcuffed in a burning house. Then I realized that they hadn't just run out to escape the smoke, they were grabbing fire extinguishers and putting out the fire. That was the right call, unless the guy was cooperating with them there was no way they were going to be able to get him out of that house. Were they going to drag him through the fire, or try to shove him through a window? Way better to decide to go for the fire extinguishers before the fire got to a point where it was no longer possible to put it out.

I feel so bad for that lady, she lost her house and almost everything in it because of him. I really wish her the best.

Edit: Yes, I'm fully aware that the house was never fully destroyed by flames, and much is still salvageable. My point was that that house is not livable until it has been partially or fully rebuilt. She would have to move out, gather what hasn't been destroyed by fire or smoke, and settle back in. Hopefully her cats survived as well, as pets mean the world to many people out there.

This guy violates a court order after domestic violence, breaks into her house to harm her again, burns this woman’s house down, fights with police, refuses to get up and leave after starting the fire, cops are puking up smoke but they move him to safety within the house anyway because they HAVE to get out and people blame the cops because he’s still in there? Unreal! He’s in there because he CHOSE to be, not because of the police. He’s lucky they dragged him to safety before leaving. Cops DO NOT have to die because HE’S an idiot!!
