WHY do Flight Attendants ALL use this bag?

Ever noticed the luggage that flight attendants and pilots use? It's almost always Travel Pro. In this video, I dive into the mystery behind why aviation professionals swear by these bags. I'll be testing out two popular Travelpro models: the Crew Classic 17-inch carry-on and the Maxlite 5 softside underseat travel tote.

Watch as I dress up like a flight attendant, hit the airport, and see if I blend in with the crew. Will people think I'm a real flight attendant? Will I get any special treatment?

Here's what I'll cover:

A thorough review of the Travelpro luggage to help you decide if it's worth your investment. (Note: This video is not sponsored; I bought my own luggage and outfit.)
The public's reaction to my flight attendant look.
My overall experience with these bags and whether they've converted me to a softsided luggage fan.
Let's see if Travelpro lives up to the hype!

Flight attendant here. Yes that is what we say to other FAs and pilots. It’s more of a curiosity to offer a full water bottle vs a small cup as flying can really dehydrate you. Normally we are not allowed to give those out but will definitely make an exception for crews, but yes it can also be used as “let me know if you need anything” 😉 for freebies.

I also have that same under seat tote and it’s the best.

I’ve been using travel pro luggage for 3 decades now. It’s the only luggage I’ll use. Most airlines require that you use company issued luggage that is specifically designed for them that can’t be purchased publicly even though it looks the same and crews have to pay for uniform items including luggage. The reason no spinners is because the wheels are like roller blade wheels that are recessed into the frame giving more interior volume while still fitting into an overhead compartment. Spinner wheels won’t last as long and aren’t as durable. The other reason I don’t like spinners is because we usually hang the tote off the roller board not on top which acts as a counter weight allowing you to use literally one finger to pull the bag. The 17” is way too small for me and I also have purchased the larger tote bag for longer trips and shopping. Soft luggage enables you to fit more in and also I find it be more manageable in tighter or awkward space. I even have a jumbo purple travel pro for extended personal travel as check in luggage, although I could pack for a 2 week trip in my carryon. Don’t waist your money on fancy BS luggage Travel Pro is my fav and hold up really well over time & they stand by their product. Enjoy the flight, safe travels, Bon voyage 🛫

I'm a huge bag and backpack guy. I am also a Flight Attendant. Paid full price for Travelpro. I also carry my Nomatic 40L backpack. Spinner wheels are a bad thing for us. We will sometime put our bags in the Jetbridge and the angles can cause the spinner bags to just roll away. I also found the spinner tends to tip easier when putting a bag on top of the spinner bag.

the problem with these types of underseat bags is when you have the audio/power equipment boxes mounted under the seat in front of you and then there is no way you can force this under the seat. If you had a flexible type backpack you can push and squeeze it in there usually

That’s definitely a thing. We always offer flight crew a bottle of water to make sure we stay hydrated for continuous daily flying multiple flights and time zones. It’s sometimes hard to have time to fill your bottle or buy a bottle when you’re changing gates and have to board your pax quickly

I'm not sure if anyone else has told you this, but the reason those bags don't have 4-wheel spinners is because that makes the overall size of the bag larger. You can't hide spinner wheels in the frame of the bag like you can with those 2-wheel rollers.

I also feel like on really rough, uneven surfaces you'd end up having to pull a 4-wheel spinner bag behind you on two wheels as if it was a 2-wheel roller bag anyways. I do agree having spinner wheels is nice especially at airports or other places with nice, smooth floors. But at the end of the day, getting some extra internal space by letting go of the 4-wheel spinners is totally worth it and you don't really spend that much time pulling the bags behind you anyways so I can live with it.

Travel Pro held up better than anything else when used A LOT! ON-OFF the airplane 10-15 days a month. Domestically it could be several airplanes in one day. Had to smile while watching this. Travel Pro has been around a long time & changed over the years. (I was a pilot--retired almost 20 years ago).

Enjoyed your video. I have the TravelPro Maxlite 5 rolling undersea bag and got to test it out last fall. Tight fit to get under seat . Would not take it on overseas flight but love the bag for our weekend trips. Looking at the Travelpro max lite undersea bag you reviewed and it now my first choice for Europe. I had you pegged for pilot but maybe add a few more bars to the uniform and a jacket.😜😉

Flight Attendants don't get luggage for free. My daughter is an FA for United & she's paid for every Travel Pro she's ever had. They hold up well.

Travelpro Under Seat Bag - makes a great foot stool
I pull mine out after takeoff and place my feet (no shoes) on the bag.
Great sleeping position!

I just subscribed because you were dedicated enough to dress the part. 😂

Great video. I’ve used TravelPro for about 15 years. Mine is now a bit too heavy so I’m looking for a new lighter bag. Not sure if I want to switch from soft side luggage. 🧐

I own 3 travel pro luggage items. I bought them because it is the lightest luggage on the market and was concerned about lifting it into the overhead bin. Very good quality.

I used the Travelpro 20 inch Maxlite 5 Softside 2 Wheel Carry on last March. That and my small backpack was it for a 3 week trip to Asia. I managed to do the entire trip carry-on only. The man at the check in counter for Singapore Airlines was shocked I got the Travelpro weight under 7 kg. The two wheels was a little awkward, but I managed. My backpack has never gone under the seat. I've always managed to get it into the overhead bin after everyone else has stowed their bags.

I recently purchased the travelpro duffle bag. Good to see it works well in action.

We do offer each other large waters to crew members. It’s not code. Literally just trying to keep each other hydrated lol

I am not in commercial aviation in any way, but I bought one of these bags once because I know all the pilots have them, and I figured there must be a reason for that such as durability

I'm not in the airline industry but I've been using Travel Pro Carry-on luggage for 18 years. I find them very satisfying, Great workhorse bags that can be found at reasonable prices. I actually used to buy mine at TJ Maxx.

I travel with a Tatonka backpack and a soft sided two wheel cabin bag. I prefer two wheels as the bag is lighter. Also the Tatonka backpacks are very well designed. They have a potent on the top and you can put fragile things in it and also access that pocket when the pack is in the overhead locker.

Love my TravelPro it’s an awesome product. Wish I could get ahold of “crew” bag…but I’m happy for now.
