I remember when A10s first showed up in 1980. I became enamored with those screaming turbofans almost immediately. We were doing a combined arms live fire and during a pause, three of em came rolling in all happy. We all knew what they were, and they became instant favorites.

I remember during my deployment, we came under heavy fire. We called for an air strike, instead of sending the cobra’s or Apaches they sent the warthog, man I swear as soon as I heard those guns I knew for a fact that whatever enemy combatants were left were hauling ass. Best plane ever

In Vietnam, the sound you wanted to hear was the WHAP WHAP WHAP of a Huey's blades chopping through the air. Today, it's that incredible whine of those engines and the of that massive gun. The sound of the cannon is like the sky being torn open and hellfire raining down on the enemy.
