Gas Cap Solves Check Engine Light

The video explains how to reset check engine light, and how replacing my gas cap with a Stant gas cap solved the problem when the yellow check engine light stayed on and I was unable to clear check engine light.
This car is a 2014 GMC Terrain.

You just saved me today from spending much on diagnostics. It was not working at first but had to make sure the new cap is sealed tight (till I heard that clicking sound), did the reset, and boom. Never move your gas cap while the engine is on else it will trigger the check engine light on the dashboard.

Same thing, light went on after I filled gas tank, just one day after I got my car serviced with a hefty bill. Went back to the mechanic, and they couldn't turn it off. Been driving for a good 25 years. Never had a gas cap go bad on me. Other day engine light came on. Hooked my reader up and said small leak. Stopped at the gas station on my way to work and noticed my gas cap felt loose with no resistance at all (I remembered what it felt like before). Ordered a new cap from amazon and cleared the code. Problem solved.

This happened to my 2009 Subaru twice already and I have had it for a little over 1 year now; and it runs pretty well too at 178, 000 miles or so. When this happened, I unscrewed and screwed it back on, and restarted the car twice and it never came back on again. The only other times this dreaded light came on while driving was once due to a spark plug issue and then another time because my E-brake needed fixing. Otherwise, it has been smooth sailing and 2 out of the 4 times, it had to do with my gas cap. Now I make sure that I hear it click 3-4 times and not loose whatsoever before taking off after pumping gas. lol. Very good video by the way.

Replaced my gas filler cap about 4 months ago after the engine management light came on amber. The cap seal was very worn.
Same thing happened two weeks ago. Fearing the worst checked the gas filler cap which was screwed up very tight.
Removed the cap & screwed back in until I heard two clicks.
Problem solved.
Appears that a gas cap that is also screwed on too tight with very limited free movement could also trigger the engine management light to show amber as well.

My mechanic friend told me to replace my gas cap because my check engine light kept coding for EVAP and then turning off for a while before turning on again. Annoying. So I'm watching this video to see if my symptoms fit yours, and yeah, the only difference is that my check engine light doesn't turn on immediately after refilling, only after maybe a half mile away from the gas station.

me too..just solved my TRC off light signal with replacing my petrol cap..my car cannot go higher than 1500 rpm when pressing maximum to the accelerator. First, I thought the gearbox torque pin was broken. I sent it for auto transmission checking; it was not faulty.

This happened to my Toyota prius 2015 twice. I brought it to the Toyota service and they charged me $120 to diagnose & enter the code to turn off that light. They told me my gas tank cap wasn't closed tight and caused it, and I guarantee that I closed it very tight until I hear many clicks, not sure why 🤔😒
