The German DM-22 directional anti-tank mine is being used in the Ukraine war. It's an off-route mine that fires an armor piercing warhead from a significant distance away.

Germany really said "Guys, we like mines, we like Panzerfausts, now let's mix them."

40 meters is not that short of a distance...
TLDR now there's a million ways to die as a tank operator.

The Germans are really good at making everyone's last words, "oh fuck."

The DM12 PARM is not triggered by a simple tripwire or light barrier. The standard version explodes, if a fiber cable is broken. When chosen correctly, this only works if the vehicle is heavy enough. It is probably also relevant, whether it uses chains or wheels. In a newer variant it has an infrared camera which can measure the size of the vehicle. So it does not indiscriminately kill everything.

Best thing, after a certain amount of time (I think it was around 40 days give or take) the weapon automatically deactivates, so it doesn't harm civilians months or years after a conflict has ended, in case someone forgot about it.

BACK IN THE COLD WAR DAYS WE USED TO SAY, ( WITH GOOD REASON ) " THE WEST GERMAN ARMY MAKES THE BEST STUFF IN THE WORLD ". ( COOL WEAPON ) 👍💪❤🙏

Those have been out a while, but Germany never got to really use them in the cold war…. Great/ diabolical idea… clearing the road would be a waste of time with these around.
These being supplied to the Ukrainian s now, we are going to see how well it works. Going to KO alot of vehicles.

There was a guy many years ago who built an anti vehicle mine out of thick walled pipe, a C4 shape charge with a thick copper plate.

The thing had a standoff range of about 25 meters.
About the size of a large coffee can.

The C4 would cause the copper to turn into a molten jet.

It would probably not stop a tank but very useful against support vehicles.

That’s a professionally produced IED in other words.

Preston S.
Your knowledge of armament is both alluringly instructive and chilling. With that said thank you for showing me a world I had no idea existed. Just gives me more reason to repeat my mantra 'make war obsolete.'

I actually thought all anti-tank mines look like the Panzerabwehrrichtmine. I had no idea it was special.

As a German Combat engineer I can assure you, if used properly, this can be a very devastating weapon. In this example however the mines wings would have probably been caught by the grass. The mine would have shot right into the ground an the enemy would be unharmed.

I'm never going into a tank, ever

What you forgot to mention is that this mine is triggered via a wire as soon as something drives over it, which means you can cover a whole street with it, but the mine can even be offset from the trigger wire in such a way that when it is triggered it goes straight into the autoloader of a T-72, T-80 or T-90. There are also variants that have an infrared sensor, which does not allow this, but is better to hide because no wire or anything else can be found. The DM-22 is pure German engineering.
