We've spent 20 years having the side of the road randomly blow up on us. It's nice that there's an actual weapon designed to do it and not just a hunk of copper and some explosive

The trigger is a fiber cable that has a small mirror plate on the remote side. The light signal is sent into the fiber and reflected by the mirror at the far end. As long as the reflected light is received the mine is armed and waiting. When a vehicle drives over the fiber cable it is compressed or breaks and the light reflection is interrupted which triggers the mine. Since no electricity is needed outside the mine itself its weatherproof and long lasting even in harsh conditions. Surprisingly the Germans didn't overengineer this one.

Stroheim: Here in Germany you don't step on the mine, the mine step on you.

It’s like a anti tank rocket wielding soldier but instead of a human it’s a trap !

God those things fly fast and you're right they can't even get close enough to see it. Terrifying.

German engineers are and always have been scary geniuses.

In the cold War Germany rightfully expected most conventional fighting on its teritory, so it developped easy to clear mines(not underground) after the Atomic Apokalypse we wanted not so many unexploded ordinance putting civilian Zombies at risk.

One of the more interesting things with this conflict... you don't know which countries tech you are facing which makes countering another challenge.

One platoon might face German mines, another might face American ones, etc.

So you end up just guessing on which strategies to apply.

I have read that these mines can be instructed to count . So for instance if the ninth vehicle is a fuel tanker . It will wait until it passes, ignoring all others before going off !

"Experience has shown that attacks against tanks with close combat weapons by a sufficiently determined man will basically always succeed" - German Wehrmact Army Group Center anti-tank manual(The eastern front army that made it 10 miles from Moscow in 1941)

The Germans know anti tank very well, believing(from battlefield statistics)you were more likely to destroy a tank with a group of men and a anti tank weapon rather than using a tank to destroy a tank. The statistics backed this up.

I like how the Germans said “we won’t make conventional mines anymore” then take a panzerfaust and make it into a mine😂

An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

I don't want to go into too much detail now, but the mine is designed exactly for such situations. To crack Russian tanks. In the Cold War, as the first line of defense in the event of a major Soviet offensive, West Germany should have tied down the Red Army for as long as possible until the rest of NATO was ready for a defense and counter-offensive. Well, we Germans knew that, you don't have to be an expert to know that Germany wouldn't have been able and maybe even can defeat the Red Army. Therefore we have had many units trained in asymmetric warfare. They let themselves be "rolled over" by the front and then simply waited in prepared and decentralized hiding places until the offensive forces were over. Well, and then it would have hit the backup and supply units moving up. Also referred to as 'gladius'. And since we only had small and light infantry with limited resources behind the front, the predecessors of this "mine" are brilliant. In connection with conventional mines in the alternative area next to the streets and a bunch of pissed-off Germans who had to hold back at the beginning, it would have been quite a mess... We had the best teachers... Vietnamese

PARM1 can be remote controlled or is triggered by a fibre optic cable, it can be programmed to be active 7 hours to 30 days, penetrates 600mm of armour and travels at 270mph and can be placed between 2m and 40m distance.

PARM2: 750MM armour, distance up to 100m, infrared guided, overcomes reactive armour.

There is a video of some soldiers on foot setting these off. And you can see the molten copper penetrator flying like 200 yards in micro seconds.

dont know about the modern ones but they could be set for various types of vehicles based on the ignition pattern of the targets engine. yeah i know, diesels.

I saw a video of possibly this weapon being triggered by a group of Russian soldiers waking together carrying wounded. It looked like a laser weapon as it fired on them.
