This incident happened just a few hours ago at Haulover Inlet. Unfortunately, the captain lost the boat in the rough waters of Haulover Inlet. What do you think could have happened here? Let us know your thoughts. 👍

Whatever the issue was, stopping and throwing achor in the inlet with those conditions sealed that boats fate.

I'm a life long boater, Haulover is my home boating area. I know the inlet can be rough for new boaters and I believe that was the case here. I first watched the land only based video of this and it looked like the boat was taking on water. They were making headway in the inlet. Even if there were no drain plug in all they had to do was keep the boat moving forward and most of the water would drain out even if not on full plane. Then I see the drone video. Now I am convinced they had a fuel issue that caused them to lose both engines, and at the worst possible time and place. Then they decided to pull the deck hatches up to investigate. That was major mistake #1. The next move would be the fatal one. #2 They decided to anchor for fear of hitting the rocks which is usually a good idea. #3, they left the deck hatches wide open while both tried to deal with the anchor. That combined with all the deck hatches open and that horribly open transom is what sealed their fate. The boat being pulled in reverse by the tide and those rollers gushing in that non existent transom and the open deck hatches did it. Had they deleted just one of the 3 mistakes they might have been able to save the boat. They needed some kind of transom gate to prevent the water from pouring in. Even a slid in piece of plywood would block 90 of the water from flowing in. The deck hatches closed and a working bilge pump could have saved the boat too. Major learning experience for these guys. They can get the boat fixed. Their first task after getting it running again should be closing that transom up.

Having life jackets on board is required. Apparently, knowing how to properly put them on isn't also required.

To answer the question in the beginning of the video, I'd say water. Water definitely caused the boat to sink.

It's crazy we get to watch the whole struggle play out in 4k with 360 drone footage

The guy on the jet ski, did he think he was going to pull the boat by holding the rope with his hand? SMDH

An open transom exposed to the seas is a recipe for what we just watched.

I'm surprised that the jet skier gave up trying to tow the sinking vessel with his bare hand. That usually works out really well.

Those heavy batteries! And there be sharks! Oh, bitter day!

While Props to the Jet Skier for trying to help, but unless he’s Captain America, or can turn into the Incredible Hulk he’s not going to be able to tow that boat with his one hand.

I'm no boater but....If it was me, I probably would not have left the engine compartment door open after the initial look. Not locking that door closed looked like a HUGE contributing factor to the entire boat filling up.

It is amazing to me the hesitancy that they each have to actually put the life jacket on. You're not too cool for lifejacket, your boat is sinking!

My dude on the jet ski thought he was going to hand hold that tow strap to get them in.

My theory
Insurance job. He knew he was going to be filmed and made it look like engine failure. Then left the hatch open to take on water. I'm from NYC and that's the first thing that pops into my head 😂

Videos like this hit way to close to home. Several yrs. ago My brother & me, along w/ another boat pulled 3 guys out of 39 degree water in mid April on Lk. Mich., port St. Joe, Mich.. Their boat lost power & capsized in 3'-5' seas. We got 1 guy & the other boat got the other 2. About 1/2 mile offshore. We were headed out to go fishing & heard the distress call on the radio, just as we were going to turn around & go back in, because it was to rough. Huge Kudos to those guys that were there to help.
