The most perfect game ever invented. It has drama, it has excitement, it has suspense, it has power and has the energy to get you through the day. These are the fittest athletes to be recorded, there is nobody fitter than these players.

When I lived In Melbourne I was taken to my first AFL game not knowing a thing about it but got in to it and became a Richmond Tigers 🐯 fan. Don’t see much since moving to Sydney where I’m more in to my NRL. Where I’m a Penrith Panthers fan and have been for 35+ years. Oh and loved the fact you said Aussie rules rugby and league 👏👏👏 massive props for getting the distinction squirrel ☺️🇦🇺

100, 000 people at the grand final, (they get up to 90, 000 at a few special weekly games.) and unlike some overseas sports, it’s one big happy family. You only get the odd idiot, because they’re all there to enjoy the game, side-by-side as well because the fans are not segregated. The atmosphere of a grand final when they’re all screaming at once, the atmosphere is electric, and cannot be described unless you experience it.

They do have mouth guards and a soft padded head gear can be used, but not too many players wear them sometimes it's when returning from injury

Australian Rules Football is the oldest codified and REGISTERED football game in the world, 1858. The ovals are generally from 175 yards to around 195 yards long (160 to 175 metres) long, 135 yard to 160 yards wide. The top players run almost 12 miles (20 kilometres) a game. They are the greatest athletes on the planet, normally from 6 to 7 feet tall. Both left and right sided skills are required.

Bouncing (dribbling) the ball is a learned skill. I'd run a mile most nights bouncing the ball every 8 strides. After learning this over years as a kid I often never lost control of the ball for that mile. We rotate the ball as we throw it down so it lands just nose side of the belly and bounces pretty much straight up into the air. It's a bit like juggling, and acquired skill. Get's trickier at full sprint, as you might imagine, but still possible.

There did not use to be but there are now concussion protocols.if a player is concussed he is not allowed to play again for a minimum 12 days and only after being passed by a doctor.

What a great video you chose as a guide, and remember the AFL footy ground is about 3 times bigger than an American football ground, also there are 18 players per team, so 36 in all to keep the ball moving at a fast pace. 👍

There is a coin toss - it determines which way the teams kick. Yes, lots of rules about concussion. The head is considered "sacrosanct". Accidental contact to the head results in a free kick and careless or deliberate contact to the head results in a suspension. If a player gets a head injury, they must be taken from the ground and get a head injury assessment to determine if they have been concussed. If so, they are not supposed to play the following week.

It's an incredible game. I went to the Port Adelaide v Adelaide "Showdown" this year, 50, 000 people singing "Never tear us apart" before the game and then 100 minutes of pure athletic endeavor of the highest quality you will ever see. It still send chills down my back thinking about it. It was the most brilliant night...

There are afl leagues in many places around the world. Very fortunate to have the USAFL in America. Most major cities in North America have a club and are open to membership and players. Any level of experience is welcome.

before redevelopment the MCG used to have a capacity of 120K
then they removed the “standing” areas…so you can only attend if you have a ticket for a seat

There is a coin toss but that's just to choose which end you want to kick to in the first quarter. After that it just swaps every quarter, so it's pretty even.

Mouth guards are pretty much mandatory. You may not see them in team pics etc as mny players take them out and store/slide down into their sock. Juniors must wear them but they also learn how to correctly tackle once in U14s etc so by the time they play seniors their skills lessen the injuries. Concussion testing is a big thing too in AFL. Players are assessed straight away and if team doc rules they fail they dont return to game and can miss a few weeks whilst they recover. One big rule that wasnt properly covered - if you try a "speccie" (spectacular mark) and put your knee into your opponenets back to get up there and DONT take a mark, its illegal. Person you put your knee into will get a free kick. Basically speccies are a risk and only ok if you actually hold the mark. But when they do pull it off it gets the crowd roaring

Gday Squirrel. Good stuff. I lived in Victoria, Australia for 45 yrs. VFL, then AFL was the go on weekends...always a winter game here. Now I'm in Canberra, within NSW, a bit like Washington DC within Maryland, it's all Rugby. League, and Union. I'm a rugby fan now. AFL is for blouses. Cheers digger.
PS. There are legal tackles, players know what's happening. A rough illegal tackle will be penalised. Money and no play for 1, 2, 3 weeks whatever.

18 players PER SIDE, 36 on the field at once. And if you consider the size of the ground that is understandable.
