As long as you’re able to effectively do both jobs, I see no problem. If it’s something like being on call, and you meet the metrics and demands of both, I think it’s fine

We’ve been socialized that it’s “professional polygamy” because that way of thinking benefits employers. It’s the same reason that it’s “impolite” to discuss salary with other employees, why?, because you may discover that your coworker in the same position with the same experience makes more than you and all hell will break loose. Salaried employees aren’t owned for a set amount of hours, they’re typically paid for producing great work. That’s it

If you can do 2 full-time jobs at the litteral at the same time, you are a badass

People need 2 jobs cause everything is expensive.

If the employee can handle both and meet expectations, then that's on their managers.
The conservative position on this is, "don't tread on me"

If someone meets productivity and quality requirements so what???

The term polygamy implies a closer relationship than one actually has with an employer, where one is loyal and faithful. You’ve only committed to get the work done in exchange for a certain pay, not to care about their wellbeing. As long as you fulfill your commitment to the job description, you’re under no obligation to do more regardless of how much they want it. Obviously you can choose to provide more labor for the chance to increase your future earnings, but that may not be as efficient for you.

And I will take both paychecks without a fuck to give!

Nah, that’s a big load. If both jobs get done properly and on time it’s none of their business. People have somehow came to believe that your entire life is the business of your employer. For example getting pregnant while not married is none of your employers business.

This is a perspective problem. If you think of employment as an owner taking you into their “family” and taking care of you, then yes you’d think that you’re cheating, but in reality each person is their own brand and business. During an interview you are the salesman, selling your skills to a company. They want to buy low, you want to sell high (salary and benefits). If you’re brand is in high demand (physician, AI engineer) you can sell for high, only McD’s on your resume? then you’re a cheap product. You should deliver exactly what the customer (your employer) pays for and should not rely on a single customer if you don’t have to, that’s actually bad business. Imagine if any other company relied on just one customer for their income.

What an insane take. It’s absolutely NONE of the companies business what I do outside that job. Mind your business.

Well shit they need to pay more and folks wouldn’t have to work 2 jobs. A job don’t own or control a person and remember they got 8 hours tod Dow whatever after that it’s the next job turn to use their 8 hours.

Im about to be in similar position.. but my current full time job hardly keeps me occupied for more than few hours a week... So am taking on an ad-hoc consultancy role elsewhere.. all remote working... Its that or get bored out of my f***ng mind..

Agree with you Ken - society is messed up based on the responses here. Character is a fleeting trait in todays day and age.
