It is good to clear this up and explain.
Another issue is that worshipping or respecting other gods was not a problem. Someone following Odin didn't hate or attack someone who primarily worshipped Freyr, or someone following Zeus. Modern day ideas of intolerance didn't exist in these better religions.

I think it should be noted that while Odin chooses who to die it is Freya who has first pick of the Dead. This means any Norse Warrior would like to be in freya's household because they're probably the best the first picked.
