How Does China See Indian-Ally Sheikh Hasina's Ouster in Bangladesh? | Taiwan Talks EP441

As Bangladesh’s provisional leader Muhammad Yunus begins to steer the country out of chaos, what does Beijing make of the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, who ruled the country for 15 years? China praised Hasina for emphasizing “political stability” and “economic development”, while resisting U.S. allegations of human rights abuses under her leadership. Does the case of Bangladesh sound an alarm for autocrats in China and Russia, whose state medias have described her toppling in relation to terms like “color revolution” or even “Arab Spring,” a wave of anti-government, pro-democracy uprisings that overthrew governments across the Middle East and North Africa beginning in 2010?

Our guests:

Mumin Chen
- National Chung Hsing University Graduate Institute of International Politics Professor

Roger Liu
- National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) International Master's Program in Asia-Pacific Affairs (IMAPA) Assistant Professor

This is a much better show than what we have been watching our neighbour India's mainstream media discussing over the last few days. I am impressed with the knowledge of the expert guests and the anchors questioning with a lot of backdrops. ❤

This discussion misses the most important point. The Bangladeshi people considered Hasina a 100% proxy of India. The ouster of Hasina necessarily means the ouster of Indian influence from Bangladesh. The people hold India responsible for enabling Hasina to stay in power as a dictator. India now has a very bad image in Bangladesh which they cannot ever repair in many years.

Hasina is a damn liar. St Martin is a coral island and not good for any big structure.

I am a Pakistani citizen, and we are very proud to see the Bangladesh student's successful movement. It became the global model of freedom fighters. NOW, the entire Pakistan is changing into Bangladesh. In Pakistan, It is a hot cake-talking issue that inspires our students. Due to the UNJUST rulers' mistakes of our previous generation, we are separated today, but our new generation deeply loves the Bangladeshi brothers

We Bangladeshi have ousted India's puppet Hasina. We in Bangladesh boycott India as India is a trouble causer in this region.

11:00 you are wrong. Hasina's Party is called Bangladesh Awami League(BAL) while Bangladesh Nationalist Party(BNP) is the opposition party.

Hasina’s relationship with India was not bilateral-political but personal. With India's support she began her tyrannical regime, blindsided the West by portraying the Islami political party and the common Bangladeshi students of Islamic Institutions as 'Islamic Extremist' which is far away from the truth. Hasina’s goons were responsible for staging many incidents wearing the mask of Islam. Prof Chen is right about that, JEI is just another political party and they try to utilise the people's religious ideology in their favour to win seats in the Parliament. Not to forget Bangladesh is a 90% Muslim country and most of the people have little knowledge about Islamic Laws, so easy to be manipulated

There is an anti India sentiment in Bangladesh after fall of pro India govt. This was best opportunity for any country other than India to build strong collaboration with Bangladesh!

The analysis is mostly accurate, except for its portrayal of India. People consider Hasina as an Indian puppet. That means it's about 'India out'. Bangladesh no longer views India as a friendly neighbor, but rather as a hostile and aggressive nation with colonial ambitions toward Bangladesh.

Jamat E Islami is not with ISI. That is the version what Indian media try to portray wrongfully. One of the people got it completely wrong.

I am a bangladeshi watching this show. I mostly agree with both of the guests. However, professor Chen's view of how China try to sell its propaganda to its audiences is powerful. In contrast to Taiwan's dispute with China, Bangladesh has really major issues with India. Ousted fascist dictator Hasina is direct clown of India and through Hasina India tries to crub the interest of the people of Bangladesh, by nurturing Hasina to became dictator. There is evidence of how India helped dictator Hasina to rig last three elections. As Taiwan's focus on China to maintain its sovereignty, the show barely look at the whole picture. As like China, India doesn't behave well with neighbouring small states.

As a Bangladeshi, I see many people (about 80%) in social media rejecting india after the recent flood situation. So it's time for china to maintain a good relationship with Bangladesh, otherwise the west will get it. It'll be a interesting show to watch for next few years. But India can't get hold of Bangladesh anymore. Right now they are the most hated country in Bangladesh followed by Israel.

Thank you to all for this excellently informative talk! Perhaps it's me, but so far I have not found any other Western media that gave such an in-depth insight into especially of the PRC in relation to Bangladesh. Next I will check out further talks on "Taiwan Talks" about the South East Asian Sea & the Philippines.

Also: It is very impressive that both experts speak English to such a high level that they can bring in their high expertise in this discussion, especially since the Taiwanese government is so active to help this language in the country for good international communications. This is not at all self-evident around the world of Academia!

You guys are 100 % correct. Sheikh Hasina regime was dependable on India 100 % not dependable on people of Bangladesh, that’s the reason for ousted regime chief.
