Alyssa Ayres, adjunct senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, says India is a "very independent" country, and the traditional alliance relationship the U.S. has with other countries "creates an almost unexpectable level of deference on the part of the other country."

India was never part of any alliance even in the past. Not the US, nor the Soviet Union. Won't be in present day either.

Ally means modern colony like japan or south korea

India is aware of Henry Kissinger's famous statement, that being an enemy of the US is dangerous but being an ally of the US is fatal. India is well aware of the many US vassals out there. Example, France and Germany were wary regarding NATO expansion to Russia's border, but vassals cannot affect decisions.

India respects its Freedom.
Nationalists didn’t die for us to compromise India’s strategic autonomy and freedom.
Indians starved themself to protect India’s sovereignity in 1971.
This generation will not spoil there sacrifices.
India can only be a Mutual Friend if you maintain mutual Respect

You are $22T USD for 400M Americans, We are $3.7B for 1.45B Indians. We will continue to think about our interests for those 1.45B Indians with 2 nuclear countries as top enemies, Pakistan and China. Sorry US, we will not tow anyones line. Fend and Defend is key for India now.

India follows Chanakya Neeti. You may ask, who is Chanakya?
He was the greatest war strategist, economist, foreign affairs expert and political brain of the ancient world who lived 2300 years back in India.

My respect goes out to the United States for supporting democracy and diverse causes internationally. In my opinion, the United States and India are good allies and will remain so in the future.

However, India can't rely on precarious US support that is at the discretion of its Congress/Senate. What Washington foreign policy person thinks it's fair to expect India to bow down to the US.
Look at what’s happening with Ukraine, military aid is at the mercy of house/senate votes.

Pakistan and China surround India with strong armies. I don't see how US expects India to make enemies with Russia or anyone else in Asia. US shouldn't ask India to get expensive oil by avoiding cheaper oil from Russia while American politicians are flip-flopping on Ukraine aid.

Yes, the US donated money/weapons to Ukraine, but that doesn't mean India should risk its oil security and ignore the needs of millions of its citizens.

India deserves her say in the global affairs. As long as they are a democracy and not expansionist like China, India is a natural ally

Pakistan was a US 'ally' for 50 years. Where did they get with that? Germany is a key ally and what did they get? (Nordstream😅). UK has been the 'true blue' lackey and where are they now? Caveat emptor😅.

It goes both ways. US too doesn't treat India on the same footing as its European allies. US always raises human rights abuses, curbs on freedom of speech in India. But it doesn't say anything against its western Allies. For example neighbouring Canada has put curbs on social media without any reaction from US. US should be consistent in its approach for India to trust it.
