India's Neighbours Moving Away?
India’s ties with Maldives have turned net-negative since “Mohamed Muizzu '' elected as president of Maldives! who campaigned as India out of Maldives which singled close ties with China.
This made India lose one more important partner in the Indian ocean region. So the question is, Is India’s “Neighbours First Policy "failing?
You see, Neighbours First Policy focuses on improving ties with India's immediate neighbours. But in reality, all the neighbouring countries are either aligned with China or are politically unstable.
For example, politically unstable Pakistan and Sri Lanaka are aligned with China. On the other hand Nepal and Bhutan are clearly sided with China. Whereas Afghanistan and Myanmar are going through political turmoil. Left with Bangladesh, It is one of India's closest countries in the region, so India-Bangladesh ties are an exception.
While, there are few countries which balance ties with both countries but if they had to pick one, it's China because of Chinese loans.
