Todays code "DIDIWIN" (these codes were a bad idea lol)

Quick suggestion, plug some dummy connectors in your switch to prevent dust in your unused port.

The network stuff, even on a small scale, has been fun to watch. It'd be cool to see a little series on setting up dedicated servers in 2022 for older games that still let you do that.

All this server stuff went way over my head, but I really enjoyed watching Jay cut the bottom off the door. I'm a simple man.

my dad sells carpets, and he basically employed me to go to the houses that installed thicker carpets and trim their doors the same way. i clamp down a guide, i put painters tape over where the cut will be to prevent splinters and chipping the paint, cut it with saw, and install it back for them.

Seeing the Star Wars builds sitting next to your server rack really makes me want to see you make custom side panels for your Startech rack.

I like your rack. Chose the same one! And I look forward to seeing your naming convention once you add a second server lol

I recommend a robot vacuum for your office since you are installing carpet. You can have it run on a schedule and get one of those auto empty bin/self cleaning ones! Works great!

Since you're using the ASUS router as your management, you can always expand by adding another switch. The other way you could have went is using the Cloud router/switch in its router mode, and setting the ASUS into AP mode.
My personal stack is a custom pfsense computer going into a switch and I'm using an older wireless router set to AP mode for wifi. Works great. I also get the option to separate networks if need be with the pfsense setup.

A someone who used to work in ANIXTER, and learned everything about Networking, passive and aCtive equipment, cables, ISO Layers, etc, etc, etc. this is very refreshing to see.
Thanks for the code! Can't wait to win this one!!!

I've built out a bunch of racks over the years, installed tons of servers and I've done boatloads of wiring, you did a great job. I prefer using Velcro for cable ties instead of the zip ties but it's only because I'm constantly fiddling with cables or there's a high potential of cables but if it's never gonna be moved or messed with then zip ties are perfectly fine. Again though, nice job, well done!

Just did this in my house. This is a must if you already have the house Hardwired. Rack, patch panel, wireless router and modem all in one place. Then add a WAP in the upstairs. The klein tool is a must for tracing connections if you want to label everything or check bad wires.

For some reason these random bits are so relaxing for me
Thanks Jay and company for all the bits and pieces you bring us

Old school 110 patch panel. You haven't populated it too much so there is still time to switch it out for a keystone panel for more flexibility down the road.

4:40 Service loop (2-3ft) on the wall behind the rack or in a drop ceiling, would have been your friend.
6:03 Go around once or you risk cutting a conductor with UTP. Need more than once, change your blade. No need to bend, just pull. If you are installing new cables and rack use STP and shielded jacks, your equipment will thank you.

You are very passionate about doing things on your own Jay. Love to see it. Your content is great as always! Keep it rolling!!!

I would have used an unloaded patch panel that way if a jack fails you just pop it out and replace it. This would also allow you to use different color keystones to differentiate different networks. Also if you want to use the 10G router as your primary router you can hook the lan side of the Asus router up to the network and leave the wan side open and attach your Coax modem to the 10G router and it will work no problem.

Hey, pro tip: If you're ever cutting MDF or any wood with a laminate coating on it, do a single layer of painter's tape covering the area you're cutting. MUCH cleaner cut.

12:10 Classic seeing a saw in the background, i bet you could mod that and use it in a clever way lol Classic Jay.

He could make his own panels for the rack from perspex and fit some 180mm/200mm RGB Fans and filter. So it looks like a giant pc!

I watch nearly all of your videos and although I have no interest in servers, I do love seeing the progress you guys are making. And after that intro, I'm watching this entire video. GOOD LUCK WITH THE REMODEL. I hope it turns out even better than y'all hope.
