I actually disabled hardware transcoding as I never have more than two 1080p streams at once and it's mostly a straight stream.
This makes it much easier to migrate my Plex VM around as it no longer relies on hardware passthrough. :)

Saved my life probably. I just bought a supermicro with an IPMI. Read the bios manual, and found the onboard / external vga option. Searched the motherboard model on reddit and found many people unable to enable quicksync. None of them suggested setting vga to external in the bios.

I've bought an AM4 based server motherboard along with a 5950x so if I ever do want hardware decoding I was always going to have to go with a dedicated GPU. Definitely something to be mindful of though.

How timely! I just finished setting up pi-kvm with an aimos kvm switch, great piece of software!!

I have an Asrock - e3c246d4u motherboard with IPMI, to enable hardware acceleration I have to use a secret BIOS menu (ctrl+alt+F3 while booting) and enable multi-monitor to have the Quicksync working in Jellyfin. FYI

another solution is to possibly provide the additional Episode content using a merge episode plugin and having the 720 - 1080 - 4k files select-able minimizing trans-coding required. its a lot of extra files but if you want to minimize the trans-coding that could be an option. absolutely love the content here as I have an old 8700k cpu and motherboard that i could put to use till i get a proper low power setup.

Quadro P2200, using it for both Plex and Jellyfin. They both work great.

On ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P9D-I Series (motherboard) you can disable (literally turn off) both: on-board graphics card and iKVM module. It does not change anything. The built-in processor graphics module (some kind of HD Graphics, depending on the exact processor model) stays *disabled* and *undetected* anyway.

Decoding should be done on client side, download footage in h.264, disable server side conversion.

@Wolfgang's Channel - Have you got a neat solution for connecting to your jellyfin server without a (static) IPv4 and only a dynamous IPv6 address? With neat i am thinking about using a Fire TV Stick Jellyfin App without modifying the Fire TV Stick. Just make it accessible for everyone who wants it (and got the connect data and a account to log in to it).

Haven't tried this on my server yet, but I had issues with the IPMI on my X570D4U that seems to come from the same problem. When the iGPU is activated, the KVM does not output video. Luckily I can do without hardware encoding

a great tip you should know when building a new server

Nice tip, this is something I wasn't aware of! Btw have you considered getting a cheap gpu for decoding?

What model MB? I'm thinking of building a NAS with Unraid but don't need video decoding etc just a file server.
