This exercise is not about the weight, it's about full range of motion, full extension and full contraction. I'm impressed when people use 50s for this. If you're just starting out, you're best with sticking with a weight you can fully control

If you guys want to avoid injury do not go super heavy on this exercise. Just focus more on the contraction and mind-muscle connection. It may seem like arnold is using a lot of weight but that isnt a lot for him. That weight for flyes is my absolute maximum. I do not use it though for working sets as it would fuck my shoulders up. The fly is a focused isolation exercise, opposed to a heavy compound movement like the bench press so use appropriate weight and focus on form opposed to seeing how much weight you can move. You will notice when doing the fly you wont feel much in terms of the chest if you go too heavy and dont get the squeeze. Youll end up just stretching the front deltoid as well as a few other parts of your rotator cuff.

As a bodybuilder- you learn what works for you. Those flys definitely working for Arnold and everyone won’t get this same results...

First time I did this exercise, even with light weights, I felt the middle of my Chest stretching open with a huge load like if my chest was opening & I heard loud a crack in my chest!
Onwards, I never looked back!
It really does work, if you mix them with all the other exercises!
If you do them slow, with mind-muscle connection & caution, this is a top exercise with no need to use heavy weights, unless you are a experienced trainer with rhythm & power for it!

this is my favorite chest finisher. like others have said you dont have to go heavy on this or you will hurt yourself. to me this is more of a finisher and i like to go deep just above what would be shoulder pain. by the time i get to the top my chest is pumped and i can see it shaking and spasming. to me it works a lot better than a peck deck. fresh back in the gym or just starting i would not recommend more than 20-25lbs or you can hurt yourself.

a lot of people hate this excercise for me is key in giving a real good contraction, it have help me even with posture, idkm i do it all the way down my shoulders dont hurt at all because i really focus on the chest, maybe it hurts when you ego lift instead of doing mind/muscle connection with a inteligent weight. i use 65 pounds for dumbell push ups and super setting with 30 pound dumbells flys x3, i do this 1 day a week.

Cory, are there any plans to release more of the training footage that was filmed for Pumping Iron? I've heard there are hours and hours of footage showing the way Arnold and others trained.

I personally do this exercise and I love to go heavy.. I go as deep as possible just like he's doing in the video. Start with lower weight and work your way up, I feel completely safe performing it in this exact way. Go from experience and don't let people tell you what's right and wrong. When it comes to bodybuilding and building muscle we all want to optimize our progress/gains, Things you learn early on will literally become GOSPEL.. Sometimes an influx of information can be bad. I believe this exercise and the exact way he preforms it serves a great purpose, Look at the other exercises he performs and the way he does them, It's extremely advanced for that time and people are STILL trying to figure out how he built such an amazing chest. I believe this exercise specifically played a great role.

Yooo these kill my chest 👌🏽 you really gotta concentrate though on that muscle contraction. I’m usually stoned at the gym though which really helps me concentrate on my form and muscle flow.
