@MrKenneththeboss This isn't the hardest thing mathematically I've done...I'm just used to math being very mechanical, just chugging and plugging, not word problems. All of the classes in math I've ever taken preferred to emphasize theory and calculation over analysis/word problems. I wanted to hit my head against a brick wall while taking calc2 because a lot of the word problems were so vague. Calculus 3 is working a lot better for me now...thanks to a much better textbook and patrickJMT. :)

Would it have worked if the faster plane's value of r was r+50 instead of the slower plane with r-50?

I remember in algebra I, these were the only type of problems that I couldn't do..I wish I could've had this video back then. I'm in calc II now and this guy works wonders on my grade.

the way the problem was solved was so confusing for me. If only I could remember how my teacher solved that, can't find anything on youtube that is similar to how he solved it.

I think he was picturing a commercial jet plane. He probably doesn't realize that smaller one engine planes (Which considering the miles traveled, makes the most sense), are considerably slower.
