Hardware-wise, there's only one that wins handsdown. The Surface Laptop 7 has a screen that's 120hz vs Air 60hz, Surface screen has 10-multipoint touch vs Air no-touch screen. And the Surface keyboard brightness can be adjusted right from the dedicated keys instead going multiple steps in settings to adjust on the Air.

Unless you want MacOS I think the Surface laptop 7 is a better deal if you're using it for basic tasks. The fact it has 16GB of RAM and you can upgrade the storage to 512, 1Tb of storage or etc makes it a better laptop.

I appreciate ur battery test here. But for me here's why I'll actually be going for the surface because of the battery over the mac:

The surface saw much better results than the M2 and even the M3 in the most realistic automated battery test I've seen yet that Alex Ziskind did.

why i'd still get the mac:

- better battery life (personal experience + multiple battery test reviews)
- a more color accurate display
- better performance (considering the fact that almost all major creative apps don't run on the surface, or run sluggishly)
- trackpad (there's no argument, it's a bigger trackpad, and their trackpads sound nicer as well)
- keyboard (i'm way too used to the keyboard of the macbook, and the keyboard feels really good too)
- chrome runs natively on the mac, unlike the surface, though i usually use Arc or Safari
- the build of the surface screams macbook, there's no personal identity to the surface.

the fact that only a handful of apps natively run on this, not to mention the barely-flagship level frame rates in something like minecraft is the only reason people will get the mac

i like how mac's function keys are the same size as everything else. Look at how much space Surface is wasting that it has smaller trackpads and keycaps even though it has more "surface" 💀
and the placement of the power button is a true mystery.
