Blender 2.7 - Introduction to Cycles nodes and mixing

Nodes can be daunting if you've never used them before. In this video I try to explain some basics of how to use the Cycles material nodes to colour, overlay and combine a couple of different images using "factors" and also adding transparency.

hi i just whatched your video on using nodes in blender and it was awesome. I wanted to ask if you could make another tutorial on nodes but go through all of the nodes and explain what node does what and what you would use a particular node for. Thanks.

thank you very much for this great tutorial. A question i'd have: once you've made yourself a shader you like, can you somehow control it more like this: for example lets say i made a wood/stone shader, and i would like it to get darker controlled by an ambient occusion node, i can't do that because the output of the AO node is not a color, but a material. In photoshop i know i'd do this by setting the AO to multiply on the other material, is something like this possible with nodes so that one cool shader can be used to influence another cool shader and them both to mix? i know there's mix shader, but that just makes 50-50, instead of an "overlay" type effect, and that makes the colors look soft, and the wood/stone shader looks less cool instead of more cool with cavities darker.
