I've played ac1/ bloodlines/ revelation/ blackflag/ rogue/ unity/ origins/ valhala and I've never felt as OP and versatile with the other assassins as with master templar Shay(full power ship), when you play with him you feel literally unstoppable with the amount of strength and equipement this guy has(and his unstoppable ship destroying everybodyin nanval war), I felt pretty strong with and heavy with Eivor but not as good as how playing with Shay feels, it's like a King.

I always say Edward is a special nugget he achieved what most people achieve via hard training, he just couldnt be arsed about anything most of the time, he is a true pirate, whilst shay put thought in all his actions, his own philosophy fueled his passion.

Shay is probably the most underrated assassin for sure. Id honestly say he beats all the main line assassins exceot Altair and Ezio in their primes. Maybe connor, but thats a debate in its own right.

battle iq, skill, endurance, and reflexes i gotta give to edward. he was smart enough to decimate the navies of two empires and basically all of ac4 was edward killing assassins and templars based on pure instinct. edward also had been stuck in several environments throughout the game where he was forced to survive from the islands to the jamaican prisons (historically known to be a death sentence for all that are sent there). Edward also has a larger lung capacity so he could definitely outlast shay

note: haytham, achilles, and liam also ran away from an earthquake from the center in practically a much more difficult environment. speed would most likely be tied between edward and shay since edward outclasses achilles and maybe liam since we dont know much about him.

Not to sound biased but I think Endurance and Durability go to Edward
Yes, Shay survived a fall off a cliff and several severe hits from the earthquake
But Edward did survive close proximity to a ship exploding and survived a painful stab wound when escaping the observatory. Not to mention he was marooned on an island for some time. Hunting, hunger, wild beasts, lack of water. He survived that too and he also just walked off getting shot by a blow dart.

If we're going by the lore Edward kicks Shay's ass any day. After AC4 came out, it was established that Edward was quite literally the perfect swordsman. One of the best fighters the brotherhood has ever seen.

For all those thinking about his death, Haythem's journal "Forsaken" was written before Edwards character was established. They didn't know how skilled he would end up being.

-Strength: Edward, the guy fought sharks, underwater, and even if people wanna say no, even in the trailers he broke chains and wood with his fists
-Speed:shay, the guy ran from an earthquake caused by an isu artifact
-Agility:shay, same reason
-Melee fight(hand to hand): Edward, canonically fought drunk, and the most agile and fastest with swords is mentioned, by far, I must also add, it is mentioned in the data of the novels and the game of black flag, that Edwaed was trained by the same black beard, an animi user, and abstergo entertainment considers them the most skilled in this section, so Edward takes this section by far (I will not tell Edward about the training since it is more purely in melee)
-Aim Edward: 4 pistols of one, that is the most difficult, believe me, I have experience.
-Intelligence:shay, the guy outsmarted multiple professional assassins, a complete brotherhood
-Resistance: Shay, they shot him and he fell from a ravine and he survived, anyone would be left without walking
-Endurance: edward, the guy spent all his time on the high seas, once he stayed on an island without food and dealt with the jaguars, and his crazy armed friend (edward only had hidden leaves), also the fact of enduring exaggeratedly underwater, and the fact of surviving after all the beatings in a Caribbean prison, and believe me, it's very, very, very hard, and then having the energy to escape
-Stealth: Shay, the guy was hunted day and night by professional assassins, and he always hunted them, and we know that's hard, canonically he killed all the brotherhood in America 🗿
-Talent: Edward, canonically he was not trained by assassins or Templars, yes he train with a animi guy, but not all his life, and without training purely, he ended up with a great traitor assassin, killed many assassins who came to capture the sage, and surpassed all of them.meanwhile, shay train all his life
-Weapons: shay. I must not explain
-Mar: Edward, in addition to being more experienced in this section, the jackdow is superior, although it depends more on the area, in the arctic it would not do well, I also give this section to Edward, because of his exaggerated chances of surviving more adrift than shay
-Experience: Shay, trained all his life, and hunted assassins until old age.

Edward: 6 points
Shay: 7 points

Now there are two crucial points that I must mention, and that is, Edward is carefree and risky, this is a double-edged sword, due to his carelessness, Shay could easily catch him, do not underestimate him, the guy ended up with assassins day and night, Edward can be trusted. And it would be a very, very bad idea, seriously, Shay literally has a special weapon to get him out of hiding (pipe dart) and Edward, very, very confident, this is an object against, but, in return, Edward has some things in favor, very risky, Shay cannot foresee that, the guy, in the novels, canonical, had just come out of the sea (he was diving) and found all his crewmen captured on their own ship by another pirate, Edward devised a plan and literally almost blew up his own ship without realizing it, with a simple smile. That is very unexpected.

SUMMARY

-If they are in a naval battle:
Edward wins, because even, in a hypothetical scenario that they both sink, and they end up being shipwrecked, Edward simply has a lot of experience in that

-If both hunt each other, let's say they have a mission to kill the other:
Shay wins, he has the chance to win, simply more intelligent and experienced against professional assassins all his life, and Edward is very confident

-A battle from afar (shots)
Shay would win, although I see Edward as more skilled with firearms, Shay's weapons simply have a greater range

In a close melee fight:
Edward would win, simply more skilled with the sword, and fast, a beast, he wouldn't give Shay time to draw his weapons

-A ground fight with a moderate distance, or just running around each other:
Shay, just for the weapons and because he's very smart, you could set up traps.

Of these 5 occasions he wins

Winner:
I would say Shay, more than anything because of his experience against assassins, his superior weapons and tactics, the chances of reaching a hand-to-hand battle on the ground are low, in this Edward would win, but the best chances are the two hunting each other, or one running after another, in which Shay would gabaria due to his greater ability in parkour, intelligence, experience against hidden assassins, infiltrating assassination camps, etc. That yes, if it is in the sea, it is screwed shay (unless it is atlantic)
I love Edward more, more talented and all, but Shay is a guy who killed an entire colonial brotherhood, day and night (yes, Edward is the best character by far)
